My son is 5 months old and was diagnosed with allergic colitis at 1 month. Although after doing a repeat scope recently, they still are not exactly sure this is what is causing his bloody stools. My son has been exclusively breast fed (and also taken breast milk only via bottle while I am at work). I cut out dairy and soy at 1 month and 2 1/2 months respectively. After that, my son appeared to be happier (he used to scream all the time and could not be consoled). He also stopped having blood in his stool. Then at the beginning of december he started having blood again. He has not gained any weight in 3 weeks and is now having blood in his stool daily. We got a second opinion and the doctor said I either need to do a 6 food elimination diet (dairy, soy, nuts, eggs, fish and wheat) or put him on an amino acid formula like neocate or elecare. She said if I did the diet, it would be hard and I still may not have an answer. She said that I would have to meet with a dietician. So I called a dietician who has gone through this before and stated that she eliminated almost everything and her child did nto get better until she put her on the formula. She strongly recommended switching to the amino acid formula. So I planned on trying that. However, when we tried the formula, my son will not take it. So we tried just giving him a bottle of breast milk only which he has done for 2 and a half months everyday while I am at work, and he won't even take that. I don't know if it is because I was off work from thurs-mon because of the holiday and he got used the breast or because he has an aversion to the bottle due to the formula we had tried. I am stressed and lost because now he won't even take breasmilk from a bottle and I have to work. I called la leche league and they were not helpful at all. Doctor has not called me back and probably won't offer anything helpful. Anyone have any advice please! I'm desperate!

Re: any moms have baby with allergic colitis? Help please!
I wish I had some answers for you. When E was that age she would have issues switching from bottle to breast and back again when I had to work. Keep trying. Not sure if you have seen this site before but it has helped me so many times with answers and links to articles and information. Here is what I found about food sensitivity in BF babies. It may offer links to something you might try or look into.
