I lock my car everywhere except for driveways (mine, friends or family). Our cars were broken into about 3 years ago (they got $28 from DH's car...it was seriously the ONE time he didn't lock it). Nothing was taken from mine. The only time I lock mine is when I know my bankcard is in there (not visible).
Ditto Zenya. It's a reflex. I get paranoid sometimes and go to check that I've locked the doors, only to find that I already did it without even thinking about it.

Again, it is always locked. Even when I lived in a small town it was locked. My ex once snuck into the back seat of my mini van while my friend and I were in a movie. We were crying over the movie, and he yelled "boo" and literally scared the crap out of us! We screamed and burst into tears, he felt awful, and I've locked my doors ever since.

I said always but if my car is in my garage which has the door shut all the time, then its not locked. I figure if someone wants to break into my garage, a locked car will not stop them from breaking a window and getting into my car as well. My DH will leave the car unlocked when we are at his parents and it drives me nuts as they live 10 mins from us and safety is no less of a concern at their house than ours or anyplace else where we live. My locked car was broken into in the 5 mins it took me to run into daycare and get my DD a few years back - I am still amazed by the number of cars I see left open, with keys inside and often running in the window. Hello - please take my car!!! (and yes, someone did have their car stolen in this exact way at my daycare a few years back. Security has been tightened but the daycare was told that car theifs or people who want to grab a purse or a back with a laptop in it target places like daycares and school since parents often leave stuff in the car as they are just running in and out.
Always locked unless it's in the garage. And I'm shocked at the number of women who leave their purse in the car. I try to never leave valuables in the car. If I run errands after work, my laptop is in the trunk.
The only time I lock mine is when I am shopping. When it's at home it's in the garage and at work it's right in front of my window, with the keys in it.
I always lock my car no matter where I am. DH's car was broken into twice in our driveway. He forgot to lock it both times. Between those 2 instances, we lost well over $1000 worth of items. Not good.
We always lock our cars unless they are in the garage.
We used to live in a larger city and just got in the habit of doing it. DH usually has drug samples in his car so it's important his is locked or in the garage as much as possible.
always, even when driving.....some guy just tried to get in my sister's car with her and her baby when she was leaving a parking lot! Thank goodness she also automatically locks her doors too!

Re: POLL: Do you lock your car?
Depends. At home or elsewhere?
At home? Pretty much never.
Visiting a friend and parked in their driveway? Never locked.
At work, running errands or otherwise in an actual parking lot? Always locked.

This word for word. We do park in the garage though and typically the garage door is always closed.

Exactly this.
At home or a friend's house, never.
At my mom's condo complex, shopping or at an activity, always.

This is me. I have never walked away from my car without locking it first.
When out in public, it's always locked. When I am cleaning the church, not usually locked.
At home, never locked and then keys sit in the cup holder. I will admit to it being in the attached garage and the house is always locked.
This.
