I went for my 37week appointment and my doctor hasn't even mentioned doing internals...is this common?

My MW said they don't do them til 39 weeks... every doctor is different, I would be thankful you aren't having to get them every week!

Some don't do them because they aren't really necessary or tell you all that much.

I've had one (I was having some contractions and she wanted to see if anything was happening), but my dr. tries to avoid them unless there's a reason to check (like having contractions, or losing your MP, etc.). I think it's pretty normal not to get checked until close to your due date, if at all, depending on your dr.

I didn't do them at 37 weeks because not much action was showing up on the non-stress test. Going to DR tomorrow and still won't do it unless the DR really wants to do it. Everything I've read says the results don't necessarily mean it's going to rush it along.

My doctor does them beginning at 36 weeks... every week. I like it to know that I am making progress.

I've been having them since 34 weeks.  I like to know where I stand...so far only 30% effaced.  We'll have a more accurate picture tomorrow.

As long as there are no problems or concerns, my clinic doesn't do them at all until you think you're in labour, or far enough past your due date that they have to induce you.  They will if you ask, but its not routine at all places, which I consider a good thing!
