benadryl for an infant 7 mo old - clicky poll too

Has anyone's Ped recommend benadryl for their baby for allergies or a cold?  My GP who we saw first recommends a small amount of ben. for the baby but the ped who we saw a week later says give her nothing.  I'm wondering what everyone elses experience is with this. [Poll]

  • I never asked my pedi and I have used Benadryl before.  I do have a friend who is a pediatric nurse and was the one who suggested it-she has used it on both her kids.

  • My old pedi recommended orange triaminic when I had my older kids. He said 1/4tsp when they got colds/allergies. This was a long time ago oldest is now 20 and 2nd youngest is 14.

  • We had to give DS #1 benadryl when he had an allergic reaction to amoxicillan.  It helped the hive, but he went wild.  It definitely did not help him sleep.

  • I've used it for my older daughter's colds because sometimes she's just so miserable at night with sleeping and a cold. q

  • Our pedi says no meds for a cold, but my LO has hive breakouts pretty often. We give Zyrtek for small outbreaks and Benadryl for bigger ones.
