Someone please explain this crap to me because no, I am NOT 80, 26 actually and I call nice work "bottoms" SLACKS dammit. What constitutes "slacks" vs "pants?" Someone care to explain how this makes me a friggin old lady?

Re: WTF is the difference??
Ditto.
Same here... its either pants or jeans.
it's the same, just called different things in different parts of the country. my grandma calls shirts "tops". like people in michigan call soda "pop".

I think slacks are dressier pants, and pants are more casual? That's how my father always put it.
dunno. i say pants. jeans. trousers. khakis. chinos.
slacks are polyester, tend to be elastic waisted, and worn by people over 70.
i also say slacks for nice pants, although i use it interchangeably with trousers.
to me, pants is the overall group name, and jeans, khakis/chinos, slacks/trousers are the subgroupings.
i disagree with njkitty too. the polyester, elastic waisted garments she described have always been known as the generic pants term to me, while slacks and trousers refer to nice wool suiting type pants.
fyi DH is New England born and bred and has confirmed that "slacks" is not a New England term!
Ditto this
Maybe its a regional terminology, I don't know. I just never hear people call them slacks unless they are old ladies.
