shape up plans

What are your plans for getting back "in shape" after baby. I know time is going to be limited, but going to the gym is something that is very important to me and my BF. As we all know you can't exactly work out like normal while pregnant, obviously he has had no problem maintaining his work out sched. We have already set a sched so that I will be able to make it to the gym for a serious workout at least a couple times a week.

Re: shape up plans

  • I'm not going to worry about it immediately, but within a couple of weeks, I want to be back up and at it, even if only a little bit. I guess it all depends on how I feel physically after the birth and what my doctor recommends. Pre-pregnancy, I loved my workouts and really looked forward to them. Aside from yoga, I've been MIA from the gym for months! After awhile, it was just too much. I can't wait to get back into the swing of things.

  • DH still goes to the gym every morning, but that's not my thing. I'll plan on long walks around the neighborhood (my mom already said she'll go with me!) and then just lots of baby lifting and BFing. I am not going to push myself too hard too fast.

  • I'm looking forward to spring, I like to get up in the morning with the baby's and go for walks. I'm trying to justify to my DH that we need a bumbleride indie twin so I have a really nice stroller to use each day.

  • I'm not even going to worry about it for the first month.  My priority is to take care of DS and give my body time to recover.  I also want to make sure I know my baby's 'schedule' before I try to shake it up with exercising.

I'll probably start, with the blessing of my doctor, with taking walks with baby.  I am going to ease into it though because I plan to breastfeed, and I've heard the lactic acid from a strenuous workout can make the taste of breastmilk change.  If I have to choose between exercising and being able to feed my baby, baby wins.

  • I'm probably not going to worry too much about it for the first few weeks. I would like to join Weight Watchers at some point, and there is a gym close to home that also provides babysitters while you work out. I'd like to take advantage of that.

  • I have a home gym with an elliptical that I plan on getting lots of use out of.  DH does P90X, and I will join him for some of the more cardio centered workouts as well.  Also, we plan on doing lots of bike riding when the weather gets better, and I'll get back into ballet and ballroom as well.

  • Recovery time for me (six weeks), then I will be joining Weight Watchers again since they have a "breast feeding" option as part of their point program.  I've loved that program so much and it has kept me at my optimal weight before pregnancy.  Also, DH and I bought a nice jogging stroller.  DH is the only one that jogs in our house, but I plan on using it for walks outside once spring arrives.  We have some nice nature trails where we live.

  • Once I'm cleared to exercise PP, I'll be heading to the gym a few times a week to start getting active again (I haven't been going during pregnancy - I was so sick for so long, then wasn't allowed for a while).

  • I took long walks with DS and occaisonally ran.  I didn't have much energy for working out with BFing.
  • I think chasing a toddler and having a newborn will be enough for me.  I slowly/steadily lost the weight after LO #1 by nursing, eating right and being active with her.  I'm not worried about losing all the weight immediately.

  • I'm a runner, and can't wait to be cleared to run! I threw in the towel with it a couple weeks ago since it is so uncomfortable. I plan on a half marathon in May, and NYC Marathon in the Fall (deferal from 2011). I'd also like to get into strength training again starting at 6-8w pp. Most of the weight I'll lose from watching my diet better though.

  • My thought was that I start back with simple cardio. I have a Wii Fit Plus that I plan to get back into using regularly since it's an easy at-home work out (and super fun). Once I feel strong enough and we have schedules better worked out, I really want to get back into Zumba classes at my gym. I had to quit it much earlier in my pregnancy than I wanted because the room had poor air circulation and my temp was getting too high too quickly!

  • I will be joining our local YMCA and doing weight watchers. Before I got pregnant I lost over 70 lbs and gained 40 back so far -__- Not really happy about that but not really worried either. I know it will come off again. How long do women usually have to wait before they can start working out again? I don't want to wait long at all!! But I know my body has to heal.
  • I'm going to start watching my diet again and eating healthier than I have been. It's been hard because at first, everything was making me throw up, and now everything is giving me heart burn! But once it's ok to exercise again, I'm going to start doing P90X again. I got into great shape with that beforehand and can't wait to start it again! Smile

  • After I am healed up, it's back to ROLLER DERBY!!! :)  I missed skating so much, as well as the camaraderie.  It's a fun & effective workout...and you get to swear a lot ;)

  • I'm with the PPs about taking a break from work outs for about 4-6 weeks. I am breastfeedijng so hopefully ill lose some weight from that, and I'm going back to work as a nanny after 2 weeks, so chasing around a 1 year old will be my work out until I start playing volleyball and working out again.
