Did anyone else experience a reduction in movement around 37 weeks?
Usually LO is crazy active a few times a day, but the past few days he has been really sluggish and the movements have been really subtle. My OB is out this week, but I had an appointment with the NP earlier this week. She sent me in for an ultrasound to make sure everything was OK and as far as they could see it is (other than the fact that he is measuring small - 11th percentile). They want me to come back in tomorrow for some monitoring and then another US with the fetal medicine specialist next week.
I'm doing a kick count now and every time I do it LO "passes", but it's just not the same that it used to be. I'm having a hard time not worrying.
What about you girls? [:]
Re: Reduced movement at 37 weeks?
I actually saw my OB yesterday and this is what I took away...
I told her I wasn't feeling her as much that day, which (of course) worried me. I had a PB&J sandwich and she started moving a bunch. OB said that was exactly what she would have suggested- if she's not moving as much, lie down (preferably on side), relax and have something with sugar in it. If no movement starts up after that, then call.
She did say that movement will slow/be less vigorous due to restricted space, so I think what you're describing sounds totally normal!
Thanks for the encouraging words, girls. He has been moving around a little more today, but I will feel better after my monitoring tomorrow.
I feel such a responsibility knowing I'm the only one who knows what he's doing all day. It's hard these last few weeks to figure out what's going on in there and make sure he's OK.
This is my second and with both pregnancies I've asked about the reduced movement and both pregnancies I've been reassured that the baby is moving just as much, but the movements are so much more subtle now, because there is just nowhere for the baby to go, that it's harder for the mom to detect a lot of times. I have a short torso and am only 5'1" so there wasn't much room to begin with...being just about 37 weeks with a baby whose weight was estimated at 6.13 lbs yesterday really doesn't leave ANY room for the baby to go. They can't "wind up" and punch you or get in a good, swift kick anymore. More of subtle, almost "rolling" movements or moving around more slowly so you don't feel it.
GL and I hope all is well!!!
