NBR - freezing meat

Do you guys ever freeze uncooked but prepared meat?  I had a ton of hamburger meat that I cooked up most of it, divided and have in ziplocs in the freezer to add to food to make easy meals.  I also made a double batch for mini meatloaf that I plan to cook up later this week for a dinner, but wanted to freeze the other half.  Should I cook it all and then freeze it?  I wonder if it would dry out.  I mean, the plain ground beef doesn't seem to dry out, but we also don't eat it by itself, it is always mixed in with mashed potatoes, pasta, or taco seasoning.  Or should I make little balls of it uncooked and freeze and then once frozen, stick in a gallon ziploc bag.  ( I cook them in muffin pans, so that is why I say make little balls)

Re: NBR - freezing meat

  • I have made meatloaf to freeze (uncooked)

I just mix up the ground beef (or turkey) w/ breadcrumbs, ketchup, egg, milk, chopped onion etc and then put it in a disposable tin loaf pan. Cover the top w/ saran wrap or foil and then put the pan in a large freezer bag. When I want to cook it I let in thaw in the fridge for a day and then throw it in the oven like usual.

I also always freeze meatballs...sometimes cooked, sometimes raw. They always turn out fine either way.

  • Hmm maybe I will pick up disposable muffin pans then.  That will make for easy clean up too.  Thanks!
  • I freeze all of my meat. I buy it in bulk because it is cheaper and then freeze it and pull it out as needed. I use freezer bags and I have never had a problem.
