Fearing Those Words: Bed Rest

I've been pretty lucky with having a high risk pregnancy that I haven't been put on bed rest.  I have my weekly appointment on Friday and I'm worried with the cramping/swelling/high blood sugar issues I've had that bed rest might be in my foreseeable future.  Sure I was warned, but now it is a nightmare coming true.  AHHHH!!!  Everything was fine until three days ago.  I guess the cramps I'm having are a sign of pre-term labor so I'm supposed to really take it easy until I see my OB Friday.  If they get worse, right to L&D I'm supposed to go.

The good news is that I have a stack of video games to keep me occupied if it does happen.  Being a pregnant nerd has its positives.  Big Smile

  • Good luck! I have been home off of work and I have been going stir crazy. I'm glad we have netflix or I would have gone totally crazy.

  • bed rest... think of it as enforced relaxation. Play your games, sleep lots, watch your favorite shows on TV and get coddled by the family.  At least it wont be for long. At 34 weeks you only have 6 weeks to go stir crazy. With DD, I was on bed rest from 13 weeks on. I went a bit insane, really truely, even got hospitalized for depression at some point during that mess of a PG.

    Enjoy the chance to rest.

  • Hope you don't get the bed rest sentence...but seems like you've got a good outlook on it if it does happen.  I just finished a 12+week sentence, being released once I hit full term 37weeks, also for PTL.  So maybe your OB would be generous and only keep you on it for 3 weeks....sad thing is, the first 3 weeks are the hardest til you get a routine down.  Are you having contractions?  Is your cervix shortening?  I guess you won't know until the appt Friday...I'm surprised they're not having you come in sooner if they suspect PTL... An irritable uterus is no fun either though.  Good luck! Keep that kid cooking!

I was actually surprised that they didn't have me come in either, but she said at this point I'm doing everything I can to prevent PTL.  I guess a day won't kill me (finger's crossed).  The original plan was to have an US the second week in January and if the baby wasn't doing well or was getting too big that I would be induced that week.  If he was looking good, then I get to wait two more weeks.  Hopefully he will be just fine.
