  • Zantac won't decrease the amount of spitting, but should help with the pain in about 24 hours or so. It helps neutralize the acid in the stomach, so that when a baby spits up, it doesn't burn. That said, if there is any irritation in the esophogus, it may take a few days of healing before baby starts to feel better.

  • It took a week to kick in for DS - then there was that time I thought he was 'all better' and didn't give it to him for a few days - DUMB! it was another week to straighten that mess out. Like PP said it will only turn LO into a 'happy spitter.' If LO is still in pain after a month or two your pedi might consider a second med. We're on two with hopes of weaning at age one. Blah. Reflux stinks.
  • For us we saw a little improvement in 48 hours, but really, a week.
