We're thinking of taking the girls to Buffalo NY in March. We plan on taking them snow tubing etc. I hesitate to get them snow boots because they'll only get a few wears out of them (the 1-2 days it snows here, then the trip there). I keep looking at the resale stores but it's been a bust so far.
I was thinking about getting them rain boots and warm wool socks to wear inside. Then I can go a size up and rain boots still get a ton of wear when playing outside when it's muddy etc. The ones I'm looking at say they have "grip" on the bottom. If it's good for wet/rain then it should be OK on snow right?
Is this a sane idea or is there something I'm not thinking of?
Re: Thoughts on snow boots?
I would worry about snow getting inside the boot since rain boots are usually stiff and open at the top. I just picture lots of wet snow getting inside the boots. :-(
When we go to upstate NY to visit my parents we usually borrow boots from my parents neighbors. I'm not sure if that would be an option though.
Totally sane idea. I polled a few gals in NY b/c I was thinking about getting some fancy snow boots for this winter there... lots of people just wear rain boots with warm socks. Some wear snow boots, but usually just the LLBean ones that are "duck" boots.
If you really want snow boots, Academy had some cheap ones when i looked a few years back. But they weren't nearly as warm as they looked.

Totally sane. Do their snow pants come down over the boots? No problem!
If they tuck in, you can duct tape the top of the boots to their pants. No joke, poor people in AK do it all the time. ;-)
What kind of dork tucks their pants into their boots
We grew up in Mass and yep, that's how we rolled!! Actually though, we would do socks, then bread bags, then into boots.
