another BLW Q

DS is slow to catch on with the joy of food... He seems to want to be in control, so we're trying a little of every method and theory of baby feeding.

When we do BLW style - apple slices, carrots, cantaloupe, etc. he poops out chunks of the food the next day, almost as if he's not digesting it.  Is this normal, or is this a sign that he's not quite ready for solids (or at least these foods) yet?  Other than the occasional food that he'll give a chance, he's EBF.

It is perfectly normal to see bits of food in their poop at this age.  When you start your baby on solids, it is more to give them a chance to learn to eat, and to appreciate different tastes and textures.  Babies should be getting the majority of their nutrition from breast-milk or formula until they are a year old.  I just think of it as a good way to determine that DS is actually eating the food we give him.

If he's able to pick up the food, put it in his mouth and actually manage to swallow some of it, he's TOTALLY ready for solid foods. The enzymes to digest the food just need to catch up. Don't worry, the bits of food in a mostly breast milk poo changes into very stinky dark brown poo soon enough.
