Babies: 6 - 9 Months

The Mini Pill question

So I have been on the Mini pill since my 6 week postpartum visit in July. I started my period sometime in November (can't remember the exact date). I haven't had one since and I'm thinking I'm a little late. Has anyone ever had issues with regulating their cycle on the mini pill. (FYI I'm still EPing every 4 hours except through the night).

Re: The Mini Pill question

  • I was on the mini pill with DS#1 and didn't get a period for 8 months...then once it came it was irregular for a few months.....I went like 2 months, then 6 weeks between and then took some getting used to before it was regular.  I then went off of it because it was making me gain weight and making me very moody.  But it did take my body awhile to adjust and oh yeah, I was breastfeeding as well.  Hope that helps.

  • I've been on it since 6 weeks and haven't had a period yet. Is yours continuous? I'm not surprised if things are wonky and it's continuous hormone.
  • This is totally off topic but what is the mini pill? My LO just turned 8 months and I am 23 weeks pregnant too - due date is 1 day shy of LO's first birthday. This second baby was a total accident (still a gift from God but totally unexpected). My husband wants me to get my tubes tied because he doesn't want any more but I am not too sure I want to make a permenant decision like that at only 27 years old. We agreed on doing waiting 5 years to make that decision. Until then we tossed around the idea of mirena or a form like it but we know 3 people who got pregnant while using mirena or a form of it. We know nothing is 100% but after knowing 3 people who it happened to makes us nervous. So to make a long story shorter, I'm looking for something that I can take while breastfeeding. I'm not too thrilled on the idea of taking a pill every day though.

Mini pill is a progesterone-only birth control pill. You must take it at the same time every day, and the failure rate is definitely higher than Mirena.
