XP: rolling over causing sleeping issues...help!

DD is rolling over in the crib from back to belly and this has been a disaster for an already poor sleeper. She can't get roll back yet and she doesn't seem comfortable to fall asleep on her belly. We worked SO hard and successfully had a great routine of her falling asleep solo in her crib. Now she rolls and screams and we're back to rocking her...

She was waking several times a night before this and now it's increasing b/c of this milestone. We can't leave her to cry if she is on her belly and struggling. How long is this going to last? Anyone??

  • I've been there. I think it took a week or so of rough nights, but it didn't take long for her to adjust. She can roll back over but now she just sleeps on her belly and is fine (usually). (Tip: At first we tried to go flip her back over everytime and that was a losing battle.)

  • I'm probably going to get reamed for this (it's happened before) but we still swaddle DS's legs. He can't roll over that way. He's managed to get out of his wrappings once or twice, but that was after he was well awake in the morning. If that makes you too squeamish - we've also had success with a blanket over him tucked tightly on both sides of the crib. It makes it harder for him to roll. We've had less success with that though - he still can (and does) roll as soon as he figures out he can. Good luck. Hope this helps.

  • It took about a week before she was comfortable rolling over and staying asleep.  It is the first of many milestones that will affect their sleep, you just gotta roll with it and know it won't last forever.
