what to do with gifts that are too babyish for toddler?

DD got a few gifts that are in my opinion too babyish for her. I dont see her getting much use out of them or them doing anything for her in the way of development at this stage.  What do you do with gifts that your LO's are given that are like this?  I'm wondering if I should keep them for baby #2  ( whenever that may be, lol ) or donate them maybe to DD's daycare or to goodwill ?    I'm specifically referring to the leapfrog my pal violet dog learning toy & a playskool elephant ball popper...these would have been great gifts on her 1st and maybe even 2nd Christmas's but she is definetly beyond them now. Should I give her a chance to at least play with them a little bit or just store them with the rest of her baby toys or donate them since they are new and still in the box, they would make some baby very happy I'm sure !    Also I dont want the gift givers asking about it later, ahhh I'm conflicted !

  • I would donate them bc I'm not a fan of storing things.

  • I'll confess they go in a regift cabinet with a sticky noting who gave it.  I've never had anyone ask about a gift they gave and wouldn't ask someone as it seems compliment-fishing.  If someone did ask I would say- "Oh that was the cutest thing ever!  You know toddlers, one day it's baby dolls the next it's race cars!"

The pre-kid me would never lie but since having kids, frankly, my memory is shot, I don't think they REALLY care, and I've realized that if the truth is nonconsequential in the grand scheme and it stings s little, it's much nicer be gracious.

  • If you plan on having more kids save it. It will save you on money. Then if its still in good condition I would donate

  • I would return it. I actually have over $200 on a TRU gift card from things I returned. We are actually going to use it towards DS power wheel we want to give himgir his bday.

  • I would return, even without having a gift receipt, both those things are sold at Walmart- they will return for store credit.

  • Just FYI- If they are things that are sold at Target - they will return without a receipt- you get a max dollar amount per year- it's tracked through your drivers license number- I think its  $100 a year, but you can also have DH return stuff too, if you hit the max. So return them, get a gift card and buy something else for your LO.

If it's not something I can return then I either donate it- either to DD's daycare- or to Child Haven, or if I know someone who has a younger child I will give it to them.

  • Kohl's takes anything back for store credit.  :)
  • I would return them. Kohls and WalMart are always my first tries and then TRU and Target after that. I know that Kohls has Violet because I was looking for it yesterday to get my DD.
