Toddlers: 24 Months+

Is your 2-3 year old shy on the playground?

My little guy always seems to be the bullseye for the bullying kids with parents who never seem to see their kid punching or pushing someone.

Because of this, he's scared to leave my side at the playground.  I feel so bad that he's scared and I'm not sure how to make it easier for him.  He's going to be 3 next month.

 Any tips?

It doesn't help that I'm super over protective and he probably senses that.

Re: Is your 2-3 year old shy on the playground?

  • My LO isnt shy but he plays by himself when were at the playground every now and then he'll find a friend (usually a girl ha ha) to play with he will be 3 in Feb. When i see other kids hitting or pushing my son and the parents arent paying attention because they are to occupied with their smartphones, i have no problems to tell the kid not hit and yell for the parents to get their kid. i get a little over protective too, when my son wont leave my side i play with him on the gym or whatever until he gets used to it, then he seems to be ok.

I hope this helped in some way. GL

  • DS last summer was really shy at the splash park. He just wanted to watch even when I went in with him. At the play ground he was shy too but got better towards the end of the summer. I let him pick which park we go to and that seems to help we have 4 in bike riding distance. DS is also very cautious somhe often wants me to help him.

  • Thank you :)

It's hard when we only have 3 nice months of the year to go to the park.  He forgets how to be social during the cold winter months haha.
