  • Mine are 19 months apart and we do have the sit and stand now that they are 2 and 3 and it's great. But at 19 months there is no way he would have been able to handle that seat. Plus, he's still so young he may still want to recline back and sleep.

  • ITA with you that a sit and stand is not a good idea with MOST 18 month olds, I personally like having a full seat for LO to ride/sleep in.  I'd also make sure you "test drive" the graco double (or any double stroller that you plan on buying), I thought it was the best think since sliced bread until I walked around with it, folded it up and put in in my car. There are a lot of double strollers that have graco carseat adapters, so you don't necessarily need to change your carseat if you go with a different brand. GL!

  • My girls are 16.5 months apart and my oldest would NOT have been ready for a sit and stand (plus I just don't like them) when I started putting them in the double stroller together. We got a Phil & Teds from CL for a great price and it's awesome. It gives me a lot of flexibility (transitions from a single to a double by adding the extra seat) and is by far my most favorite baby purchase.

  • Many doubles (like the Baby Jogger City Select) have a running board you can buy to make it a sit and stand.  I would buy somethign like this so that you can use it as a double when you first have the new baby, but then can transition.

We used our double ALL THE TIME when DS was frst born (mine are 16 months apart).  When DD turned two she started wanting to walk more.  Now at 2.5 she really doesn't love the stroller anymore and I have to use it sparingly with her.  So the running board is a big help.

THere is no way dd would have done the running board at 18 months.

  • We originally got a double, but it was a nightmare to push and maneuver.  When DS was 2 years old, we bought a sit & stand.  It has worked out great.  It's easy for him to get in and out of, and so easy to maneuver.  We bought a Joovy sit & stand for around $150 new.  I don't know how I would feel about DS sitting in the jump seat at 18 mo., but you could always put your new LO in a carrier or wrap on you, and then put your DS in the full-size stroller seat until you're more comfortable with him being in the jump seat.

  • Mine are 14 months apart and we have a front/back double stroller.

DD would NOT have been ready for a sit and stand. In fact, even now, at 26.5 months, she wouldn't actually stay on the stroller correctly. I like the ability to strap her in if necessary.

  • Mine are 16.5 months apart and there is no way my older one would have been ready for a sit and stand then. We had the double and I am glad we did. Honestly, we didnt use it a lot but when I needed it I was very glad to have it.
  • DS1 was 19.5 months when DS2 was born so around 20 months when we first used the sit and stand stroller w/ the seat in back.  He *could* use it but honestly it was a huge PITA until he turned 2 last month.  He hated sitting facing backwards and was a little young to understand he couldn't jump off the back without getting hurt.  Now that he's 2 and DS1 is old enough to sit in the front part w/o the car seat attachment we are WAY happier.  I would still get it b/c I think it's great now that they are a tiny bit older - and I'd rather have this than a huge double stroller or have to buy both.  Just keep in mind it will suck for a while before it gets better.  Kind of like having 2U2.  haha.
  • My two are 19.5 months apart and there's no way DS1 would stay on the sit and stand, not to mention he often falls asleep in the stroller so that obviously wouldn't work.  We have the Phil&Ted's Vibe and love it, though I've been using the bjorn for the baby mostly.

  • Have u looked into the Baby Trend double sit n' stand stroller. It is like a regular double stroller, but the back seat can be removed to become a sit n' stand stroller. Babies R' Us has them and Target too. It is also compatible with the grace car seats. Mine will be 19 months apart and that is what I plan on getting.

  • My girls are 18 months apart. We considered the Sit 'N Stand too but ultimately decided that DD1 is too young for the standing option. She's a runner and I felt like I couldn't trust her enough yet to stay put. Having her in a double stroller where she is strapped in to a seat has been a huge lifesaver for me.

  • Oh, and as other posters mentioned, Graco infant seats are compatible with many brands of double strollers. Our SnugRide 32 is compatible with our Bumbleride Indie Twin.

This.  My Snugride fits in my BOB and my Baby Jogger City Select.

Don't pin yourself to the Graco brand (or whatever brand you have) because that is what your carseat is.  With the exception of Peg Perego (and maybe on or two others) carseat manufacturers do not make the best strollers.

OMG - thanks so much for adding this - I have been struggling with the thought of getting a full double stroller knowing that DS (who will be 17 months when DD is born) will eventually hate being strapped into it.  This will solve all of my problems!

    Thanks again!

  • There is no way at 18 months a "normal" toddler will sit still.

We got the baby jogger city select.  It can be a single stroller, you can add the second seat (if you want) and we got a stand for the back so as DD gets older and doesn't need to be strapped into the stroller she can ride on the back (like a sit n stand). It can also hold up to 3 kids as a double with the stand.

She is 2 and I still haven't used the stand because she doesn't really understand to stand still in a store and not dash out while its moving.
