Mold/mildew question

My parents gave DS a toy chest a couple of weeks ago as his Christmas present.  My dad took all the pieces out of the box about a week ago and laid them in LO's room but never got around to putting it together.  When DH & I went to try and put it together today, we noticed that there was some mold/mildew growing on one of the unfinished areas on a piece because LO's humidifer was blowing right on it every night.  I feel so dumb but I never even thought about the humidifier getting on it because we never meant for it to sit out for so long.  So my question is now what do we do with this expensive toy chest that we have now?  Can I safely remove the mold/mildew from it, and if so, how?  Do I have to get rid of it?  WWYD?

Re: Mold/mildew question

  • I'm really not sure about this answer, so I'd check with more people before following my advice, but I think you'll need to use bleach on it to kill the mold. You'd have to do it away from your son and then seriously clean it to make sure it's safe to have around your LO.

  • What is it made out of? I'd think you'd have to spray it down with bleach to kill the mold.
