how many prefolds???

Now that I've got a little Christmas $, I'm ready to start on my stash. I'm going to eventually get some pockets and AIOs, but to start we're going with mostly prefolds and covers. I'm looking at GMD prefolds. If I want to wash about every 2 days, how many newborns and smalls should i get? I know that realistically, I could just get smalls and they would most likely be fine, but I'm going to try and get SOME newborns to see if the fit helps a bit. Do you think that 1 dozen newborn and 2 dozen smalls would be good?

I'm totally excited to start my stash, but it's a little nervewracking!!

Newborns really do fit better. I got 2 dozen newborn 2 dozen smalls and 2 each of all the other sizes to use as burp cloths, and also so I'd know when to order the next size.

The orange edge fit my baby from 8lbs 10oz at birth to 12 pounds (at 6.5 weeks). I'm so glad I had the orange edge because they fit so well. You'll want at least 2 dozen.

He's in the yellow edge smalls now at 15 pounds and they will last probably until about 17 or 18 pounds. 

My baby is long and thin, but in our experience the orange edge fit from birth-12 pounds (not 10), and the yellow fit from 12 pounds to about 18 (not 15).

Make sure you have enough covers too. We have 8, and I would suggest at least 6. Good luck!

I haven't started yet, but I got 2 dozen newborn and 1 dozen small.  Then again, my plan is to eventually use the prefolds as inserts in flips, but I'm using the prefolds with covers until he's big enough for flips.  My hope is that the newborns will be sufficient as inserts but that I had the smalls for overnight or if newborn prefolds just don't cut it.

However, if your plan is to have LO in prefolds more long term, your plan may work better for you.
