Cleaning poopy diapers without a sprayer - obviously TMI

I apologize in advance for the TMI post. My LO just started eating a significant amount of solids in the past few days. It has started to change her poop to where I can't just throw her diapers in the wash anymore without cleaning them off first. I bought a sprayer for home but we are away for the holidays and I'm having trouble dealing with this. I swish the diapers in the toilet but I really don't get much off and just make a huge mess. I end up having to use toilet paper to pull most off the diaper. Any suggestions for an easier/ less messy way to clean poop off diapers without a sprayer? I really wish they would invent a travel diaper sprayer! ETA: I didn't bring liners but now I'm thinking this would have been a good plan - how much do flushable liners actually help? I also have disposable Flip inserts but I'm not a big fan of using disposables if I can help it.

  • Can you obtain a spatula or something that you can use just for the purpose of scraping off poo?  I've heard of people doing this.  That's my only idea.

  • Do you think you could get enough force if you sprayed the diaper with a peri bottle? Sorry...that's all I've got. You should invent a travel sprayer though. Good idea Smile

  • I second the spatula. You can scrape harder than with toilet paper, then wipe it off better afterwards. Just make sure you put it in a clearly marked bag or something to keep it out of other hands or the kitchen. Ick!

  • Looks like I need to get myself a spatula!

  • I never used a sprayer. I just scraped with a plastic knife/fork/spoon or toilet paper. I didn't get every speck off the diaper, but never had issues with staining or stink.

  • I leave them in the toilet if they don't flush right off.

I can't imagine this would go over well when we are visiting friends and family! Haha. I had some luck this morning with a plastic knife. Merry Christmas!

  • Liners are a must have for me, his poop gets stuck in all the little grooves of his prefolds. I just cut up an old fleece blanket. You are probably dealing with the 'peanut butter' poop right now, it's normal between the transition from milk to more solids. In a few days it will get more managable. Anyway, the cheap spatula, a disposable knife or spoon work too. Try letting the diaper dry out for a few hours before taking care of the poop. And it might need to sit in the toilet for a few seconds and be swished around a few times. Try letting it kind of get sucked down with the flush and repeat if necessary.

  • We are in the PB stage too, and extra-slowly introducing solids, so I imagine this phase will last even longer - hurray! Stick out tongue  I know you didn't bring them with, but I am finding the flushable liners help so far.  Some is still getting onto the diaper, but not a wipeable or scrapable amount, and that teeny bit has washed up fine.  I wonder about trying a couple of layers of TP in place of liners?

  • Because we're doing BLW, the gross poo stage has lasted 6 weeks and is going strong. I can't wait for it to be over!

We managed to make do with just dunking, but he didn't eat much solids for the past few days so we were almost back to bf poo.

  • Of course my LO decides to go crazy with the solids while we are away. I wasn't expecting the change in poop so quickly otherwise I would have brought the liners (I have a ton at home!). I will definitely be using the liners when I go out with her. I didn't realize this was just a phase but I guess that makes sense.

  • We used to use disposable liners before DD's poop became solid enough to plop off the diaper. I know you can get them at Sears and Walmart here. They are great. I only flush the poopy ones though, I throw out the pee ones.
