I came across this article today....though I don't know the full story, it's sad that this is still happening.

Re: PPD and employers: recent local article
Exactly.
Mac and cheese lover!
I can't believe some jackass actually tried to say it would be undue hardship for the company to give her a little extra leave.
I don't know how many people realize, but the US is pretty much the only first-world country that doesn't provide a full YEAR of maternity leave. Every single company in Canada, and most of Europe manage to cope with their female workers taking more than 12 weeks leave. Why should it be so hard for american companies?

Did you look into your rights? This would absolutley infuriate me and I would probably be out for blood
They did it very underhandedly. They forced me into maternity leave - claiming that I could no longer perform the functions of my job. When my DS was 4 days old, they called and said that I could have my job back if I returned to work that week.
Personally, I wasn't all that disappointed with the outcome - but the way they did it made me furious.
I'm confused...the article doesn't explain how or when the woman was fired. It just said that the company refused to grant her extra time off. Was she fired after she started the law suit?
Now do I think that she should have gotten the time off? Absolutely. PPD is horrible and needs to be treated. But that article just covers the very basic info. It leaves me with a lot more questions.
