Best double stroller

Hi all.

On my way to 2u2 (for a month). I am looking for a good tandem double stroller that is not too expensive. I have read a lot of reviews and they are so mixed its been hard for me to decide.

Anyone have any preferences?

I don't consider a $600+ stroller to be in the "not to expensive" category.

OP - Check out the Graco Quattro Tour Duo. It's way better than the Graco Duoglider and is priced in the $200 range. I would go the store and test drive anything before buying it though. Make sure to bring your older LO so they can hop in.

Meh, "not too expensive" is relative.  OP, what do YOU consider too expensive?  More than $200?  More than $800?  More than $50?  We have the Britax B-Ready and so far like it.  It handles really well.  I didn't want the side-by-side and the tandem was too hard to steer and felt like I was pushing a freight train.  The B-Ready has the seats one on top of the other and I liked it vs. the Phil & Ted's since you could put the infant seat on the top or bottom seat by just purchasing the universal adapter.  That way DD can sit on the top and DS can snooze in his infant seat on the bottom.  And when he's ready for his big boy seat he'll still be young enough to probably won't mind being at the bottom as much.

It does cost approx. $400 as the single and then you have to buy the additional seat for approx. $200.  But, many sites have promos where you can get the seat for free with the purchase of the stroller.  I also recommend that if you are on a tight budget to go test drive and pick which ones you like and find it used.  In my experience I have found that the more expensive the stroller the better quality a used one is because typically folks who spend that much money on it will take extra care of it.  And for those who like to read way too much into a single sentence I'm not implying that those with strollers that cost less don't care about their strollers.  Big Smile

  • I have been reading all the posts about double strollers because I have been researching what to get and I keep seeing recs for the baby jogger.  I think spending that much on a stroller is ludacris..but to each their own! I think if I lived in a city and used a stroller on a daily basis it might be worth it..but in suburban FL I use a stroller MAYBE once a week to go to the mall. So I am interested to see what affordable ($200 or less) strollers are recommended!

It is all relative...The bugaboo donkey for example is a double but A LOT more expensive than the city select.

  • I've been doing research on double strollers forever and I finally just bought the City Select. It is expensive but I think you really get what you pay for with strollers. I have friends who have the Graco, Baby Trend, etc double strollers and they haven't been happy with them. I like the versatility with the City Select- you can use it as a single, double, add a buggy board, plus the resale will be really good. Just my two cents.

  • The City Select IS expensive compared to the Graco and Chicco doubles that are around $300.  I am pretty sure the OP is looking for more affordable options.  I don't consider the City Select at $700 an affordable option.

BUT I will say that you do get what you pay for.  Generally the more higher end strollers are made with better materials, are lighter and have higher functionality than the cheaper strollers.

I love my City Mini double, which is about $400.  It is not really an affordable option, but I really wanted something that met all my needs.  It was lightweight, easy to fold, had two reclining seats and better quality wheels.

The Graco and Chicco doubles are heavier (a whopping 50 lbs!), are bigger and bulkier.  They are $300

The Sit N Stands are also bigger and bulkier.  If you are looking at a Sit N Stand, the only one I would recommend is the Joovy Ergo Caboose.  It has air filled back wheels for easier maneuverability.  This runs about $400 as well.

  • If you shop around you can get the CS for $550/double. I've also seen the City Mini for $299- can't remember where- I think it was a 2010 model new so that would be a good option too.

  • It looks like we have similar due dates and our other LOs are only a few months apart.  I'll tell you what someone told me the other day--wait it out and see what your LO likes towards the end of the pregnancy.  Lots of people have said their kids don't like riding in strollers as they get closer to 2.  My son is only 16 months and I can tell he would hate the tandem strollers that require him to sit behind the baby, blocking his view.  I'm going to take him to test drive strollers when I'm nearing the end of my pregnancy so I can get a better feel for what will work for both of us.

  • Thanks all for your help. m+j you are probably on to something to wait till the end. That is so neat that we have kids the same ages.

  • Have you seen the Contours stroller? It lets you change how each child sits so they can both be facing outwards or towards each other. Plus it's tandem and also cheaper.
