Changing formula.

Is it bad to switch formulas?  Should you gradually introduce a new brand as the original brand is still being used?  I have 3 different kinds I've received from doctors, mail samples, etc. I hate to waste it. So far, I'm breast feeding/pumping and given a few similac advanced bottles. My supply doesn't seem to be keeping up with her. So in addition to researching ways to remedy that, I thought I'd also consider I just may have to move her to formula eventually.

Re: Changing formula.

  • I wouldn't give all different kids of formula, just pick one that works and stuck with it. If you have formula you got free that you aren't going to use then see if someone on 0-3 has the kind you use to trade, or donate it to a women's shelter.

  • i agree with pp...don't use all different kinds. we started with enfamil and switched shortly after to the target brand to save some money. but you might want to check with your pediatrician and see what he/she says. mine keeps the brand of formula he's on in his file just for reference.

  • At this age I wouldn't change too much just find the one you/LO like the best and stick with it but once they get older (like 6+mo) it doesn't seem to matter as much. I think once they are eating solids their stomachs can handle things much better and the subtle differences in the formula don't bother them. I am just saving the samples I have until then.
