If you are going for the Welsh version of Maximus, I would spell it Macsen.
At first I thought that this was a strange way of spelling Mason until this past summer. There were several forums on Nameberry, where parents wanted to use this celtic form of a latin name. Especially to get the nn Mac.
Welsh form of MAXIMUS.
Magnus Maximus (known as Macsen in Welsh) was a 4th-century co-ruler of
the Western Roman Empire. In Wales he was regarded as the founder of
several royal lineages. He appears in the Mabinogion, a collection of
tales from Welsh myth.

Ha-ha, haters, it is legit! Dislike it if you'd like, but names from other cultures aren't "stupid" and "lame."

Didn't say it wasn't legit. The way OP spelled it, it looks like she's trying to fancy up the name Mason. And I'd bet the majority of people here in the U.S. of A. will see it as a misspelling. If she lived in Ireland, people won't think it's so odd.

FWIW, I am posting under an AE and this is not my name choice. I don't think the parents are going for a Welsh name, but I have no idea where the name came from. Macson didn't even come up on babynames.com or nameberry.com. The majority of the responses here reflect my thoughts on the name.
Re: Macson
Honestly.. because you asked.
You put a C in a perfectly decent name and made up something pretty awful.
Sorry... keep trying.

Sounds very nicknamey too me.
Like a silly/lovey name for Max.
Also it just makes Mason (which is a popular but very fine name) look wrong.

Oh, it's fantastic, but only if the middle name is MUD.
LOL. And yep.
