What is it like losing your mucus plug?

Yesterday I was really crampy and having slight back pains. I went to pee and then ended up wiping ALOT of weird mucus like stuff from down there. (Sorry if TMI). It has been coming and going here and there since yesterday. Wondering if this is just really strong discharge or my plug? For those who have been through this, what was your MP experience like? This is my first, so the term "plug" leads me to think of an actual plug, not a smeary mess?

I lost mine in 2 big globs in the shower after my water broke.

I think I lost mine yesterday.  I wasn't real sure so I googled it and looked at all the images (sort of nasty). But I am pretty sure I did.  I will also say a lot of them looked way diffrent then the others.

You can lose pieces or the whole thing.  I lost two big pieces (kind of gum dropped sized and pretty much the same shape) on Tuesday night and then I lost a piece that was probably 2 times as big the next morning.  Google images will gross you out but if you really want to know, that is one option.

I lost a huge glob after going to the bathroom, so I looked in the toilet and saw it. I didn't have cramps or anything, but felt it slide out of me. Then, about a day and a half after, when I went to wipe, lots of it would be on the toilet paper, exactly how you are describing.

oh yes, and to directly answer your thread's title....

it's like wiping your down unders and seeing what you would normally see after you blow your nose really hard when you have a horrible cold. Yuck.
