My LO was recently diagnosed with an ear infection (and RSV which SUCKS). She was prescribed amoxicillin for the ear infection but she hates the taste of it! She cries and fights taking it. Tonight when I gave it to her she ended up choking on it which then made her coughing worse and the last thing I need to do is make the RSV symptoms worse. So, I'm thinking about trying to mix it with breastmilk next time. Has anyone done this? Is that ok to do ? Or do any of you have any other suggestions? Having a sick baby is horrible.
Re: mixing amoxicillin with BM
I did that when LO was really little b/c it is so sweet. to make sure he got all the meds and didn't leave any bottle behind with wasted BM and meds. I usually poured an oz of BM first, and put the meds in that...I let LO drink that first, and then filled the bottle with the rest or let him nurse until he was full

My LO was diagnosed with the same exact thing on Saturday. The pediatrician told me yesterday that I can mix it with either BM or formula. Just make sure LO takes all of the milk.
I mix it with about 1-2oz of breastmilk, then give him another bottle to wash it down. The information sheet that came with the prescription said it can be mixed with bm or formula.
I tried giving it to him straight and he threw up
I have one of these, and since DD hated the medicine she spit the pacifier out....I have to give her daily antibiotics for her kidney reflux and just put it in an ounce of BM like a PP said. I took an old nipple that I don't use anymore and made the hole a little bigger, since the meds are pretty thick it kept getting stuck. This has worked fairly well for us and DD doesn't have an issue taking the meds this way.
