Weird things you remember from giving birth

If you never noticed I am big on reminising.. lol

Looking at these newborn pics and the hair my Whitney had...I remember pushing and them saying "Ohh we see lots of hair, so much hair!!"

I remember thinking "wtf..how hairy is this baby going to be!?" lol.

For anyone else that was team green, (and had a vag delivery) while you were in labor did you forget while you were pushing to wonder what you were having?

Re: Weird things you remember from giving birth

  • I remember that between pushes we all watched tv. Even the OB had his head turned to the tv. I think it was E! News or some celebrity gossip show.

After I had her, I couldn't stop saying "She's so small!" (she was almost 8lbs, lol). I've never seen/held a newborn and she just seemed so much tinier than I imagined.

And I'm still mad they never brought me my damn ice chips. Angry

  • I remember everything but I ended up with a c-section!  All I know was I went to the hospital around 1AM, and was excited when at lunch time they started prepping for a V-birth.  Well 5 hours later, when my drugs wore off, the dr asked if I wanted a c-section.  I said sign me up!!  Oh and H said when they were trying to get her out that they were basically jumping up and pushing on my stomach to get her out, she was super high, and she must not have wanted to come out!!

  • It all went so fast, I was only in the hospital 4 hours before having her. The funniest part was checking in. I was doubled over in the check in area, fully in active labor like someone from a movie, couldn't talk, etc. and all the cute lil mamas waiting to be checked in for inductions were sitting there looking at me like "holy crap what are we about to go do?". Their sig others' faces were even better. I also was loud and cussed during my contractions once we were in the room. H tried to tell me to be quieter and focus on breathing and I gave him a death stare and hissed "let me do it my way!!!". Eta: Shiloh crowned and had the top of her head sticking out and then my contractions stalled. She wasn't in distress so we hung out with her sticking out for a few minutes and just talked about the weather ( lol, yes I had an awesome epi). Eventually another one came and out she came.

This reminds me of when we went in. I was the same way and couldn't talk, so the check in guy was asking DH all the questions. Well, H got my birthday wrong and the guy just looked at him like "Bad move, dude. You're in for it now." I couldn't laugh then, but looking back, it was hilarious.

  • I remember the amazing nurse I had holding my one leg kept rubbing my arm and saying "You're doing great sweetie, she has your hair!!" and the baby nurse was down there with my camera and almost crying.  I only pushed for 34 minuets but between contractions during those 34 minuets there was soooooo much pressure so DH would get inches from my face reminding me to breath and breathing with me.  Then when she came out he kept saying "Oh my God, oh my God", turn around so he didn't cry, and turn back around only to do it again.  I've never seen him so choked up.

Oh and she came out and went right to my stomach and when I put my one hand on her head to hold her I held it there for awhile and the blood pressure thing on my finger left a dent in her head.  When I saw it I apologized and asked if I hurt her.

  • I remember getting to the hospital and the nurse who took us to the maternity ward kept talking about something super weird - but I don't remember what it was now.

Right before pushing, my dr said, "Ok, you're going to push. I don't want to hear any whining. You're going to just focus and give some good pushes." And I'm kind of glad she said it now 'cause the pushing was just very calm and directed - even though I was totally delirious at that point.

I knew I was having a girl, but I was VERY curious about whether or not she had hair. That was all I could think about and all I kept asking about while I was pushing. At the time that seemed reasonable. Now I can't understand at all why it mattered to me. (And she had a tiny bit of hair when she born - now she's starting to have proper hair.)

  • I had an awesome nurse who never left my side. I remember I wasn't in any pain even while pushing(for 3 HOURS!!!thank you epi) but I could tell you then exact second she got stuck. The epidural didn't take away that pain. I remember trying to walk off the delivery table until they finally realized how much pain I was in and then they took me in for an emergency c-seciton. I LOVED my nurse.

  • Reading everyone's posts reminded me of a few things.  I remember when we finally went to the hospital after being home for 27+hrs I told my DP that she had exactly two minutes to get a wheel chair and get back to the car bc that was how far apart my contractions were. She ran the whole way and made it back in time.  We had to park and at the whole other end of the hospital and it was some crazy ass early time so we had to walk all the way through the whole hospital to labor and delivery while I was having contractions.  My DP walked super duper fast.

I ended up w a c-section but I pushed for over 2+ hrs and they did tell me DD had lots of hair but I didn't know she was a girl.  I remember at one point I had been pushing forever and the nurse had been pushing on my cervix to try and clear the lip while I pushed anyway she was like do you want me to clean you up down here you are very bloody.  "Umm are you kidding me lady?  I have been up for 40ish hours I could give a flying flip whether my lady bits look presentable"

I also remember screaming a lot at one point bc I was pushing and I was on pitocin and the contractions were so wickedly awful.  It was very early and I kept thinking I was totally going to wake the person in the next room but I just couldn't stop screaming.  I never scream so I was like "Who the hell is this person screaming?" It was so embarrassing.

  • LOL Doodle- I remember them giving me ins paperwork and stuff to sign in and Im thinking "I am having a baby and you are giving me paperwork, are you INSANE!?" lol They checked me about 20 min after I got there and I was a 9, so to say I was in pain was an understatement.

LOL Valley about the screaming...that pain probably just took over.

I also remember pushing so hard I seriously thought my eyes were going to pop out of my sockets. lol.

and H said the coolest thing after I had her "You did so good, babe!" H is not one to throw compliments around and is very reserved, so that was nice.

I remember asking them to hurry up in stitching me up, because I wanted my family in there pronto, and to tell them it was a girl.  As they all filtered in the room I could barely get out that it was a girl. The nurses and Matt let me tell it. I was a blubbering fool for quite awhile. lol

Look at how much our lives are different now, ladies. Its crazy.

  • I too thought my eyes were going to pop out (or at the very least, that I would break blood vessels in them and look like a devil woman).  They asked me if I wanted a mirror and I declined because I thought there was no way to keep them open, it was impossible.  Then I was mad later that I hadn't peeked (after saying all along I wasn't interested in peeking).

Awwww.....that is cute.  :))  And yes, it IS totally crazy!!
  • I had to barf once early on, and they gave me a second one of those blue bags in case I needed to again. I was still holding on to it so hard when I came out of anesthesia my hand hurt.

There was a nurse who was trying to be a champ or whatever when I went into surgery.  He kept getting in my face and telling me that it was okay and I should calm down.  After a minute or two I realized he was trying to get me to breathe slower, when I was still unmedicated and trying to breathe through contractions. duuuurp, dude.

    So much randomness.

  • A year ago a few of us had our babies, already and some of us had many weeks to go!

Since I am a sap and an AW, my journal from 12/25/10:

34 weeks 1 day!!  We made it to Christmas! I went to my nst and check up yesterday, and I am dialted to a 4 now. Dr. still says any day now, I don't buy it. I bet I go all the way to my original due date. Baby is measuring 3 pounds 1 ounce.  Im nervous and scared, I hope he/she is healthy and I know what to do. I'm going to be a real MOM! WOW!  xoxo, Marsam.

Why did we barf...the epi or the morphine I had maybe? Or nerves? That was so bad since I had just ate two cheeseburgers and a large frosty before my water broke. gahh!!

  • My husband choking me...lol  He was standing behind me while pushing and he had his hands on my sholder but he was getting so excited he was literally choking me.  I had bruises all around my neck.

This is why.  I ate a fistful of twizzlers because initially I just felt oogy, like maybe low blood sugar, and then everything happened super fast.  When you go into labor your digestion slows way down and your body wants to purge all the solid stuff in your system, so you either barf or poop a lot or, in my super lucky case, both.

I didn't have any drugs until I went under, and I barfed before that.  Not a ton, just enough to get out what I'd recently eaten.

  • I remember it seeming so weird that morning when I woke up and DH was already home from work.  He had worked night shift and got off a few hours early to go in with me since I had a scheduled C-Section.  Also, once we got situated in our room after delivery I remember the first few minutes where we just had older DS in the room with us and it was just our family of four before we let others come in.

  • I barfed too! I think it was transition. I was waiting for the epi, sat up and had to barf. Got the epi a minute after barfing, rock star anesthesiologist got it in during contractions, checked immediately after it went in because I had the urge to push, and I was a 9.5

It sounds like we had very similar experiences. lol

Although I was so nasty to the anesthesiologist that I apologized the next day when he came to check on me. They told me to let them know when I needed it. For a minute I was like "check me out, i'm a 9, no epi, I am AWESOME!!" lol. Then it some how got worse and he was dealing with other pregnant women. When he walked in the room I said "Where were you, ON BREAK OR SOMETHING!?!?!?"

lmfao...I never ever ever speak to people like that. lol

  • The weirdest thing was inbetween pushes the OB and I were quoting things from The Office and laughing our asses off. I remember thinking at the time how surreal this whole thing is after all the horror stories my mom told me about her non-medicated births. I wouldn't trade my calm, chill deliveries for anything, or my OB, funny guy :)

  • You guys are making me want to cry. I'm getting all sappy reading these posts. I remember making my husband go and get a wheel chair because my water had broken and I was still gushing everywhere. I was embarrassed to walk through the hospital to labor and delivery. I remember falling in love with the Dr. that gave me the epi. Not cuz he was hot, but because by that point I was in so much pain. Dr. Feel good . I also remember how the nurse had one leg and my H had my other and they were trying to get me to push the baby out and my H couldn't even count. I was waiting for him to pass out and eat concrete. But he made it. Lol. Funny stuff.

  • I had pitocin and was doing ok until I got to about a 5, then got the epi and was feeling no pain. I just couldn't get over how HARD it was to push! I kept telling DH, " this is really freakin hard!" I definitely thought I was going to pop some blood vessels. It was like trying to lift a house. I pushed for 3 hours ( and LO was tiny so I must suck at laboring) and had to get an episiotomy. After it, OB asked for a vacuum and I was like " oh, hell no. You can cut me but you aren't sucking on her soft little head!" I pushed like a crazy lady after that and was so happy when he told the nurse we wouldn't need it aftr all!
