Multiples

I think I'm going to ask for more check-ups...

I'm still on monthly visits with my OB and monthly ultrasounds, and because of the holidays and all, I didn't really think to do anything to change that.

The problem is, I'm mono/di, and from everything I've read and heard, I don't think this is often enough at this stage in the game to keep an eye out for TTTS. At 16 weeks, they measured exactly alike, and I hope we get the same good news next week. But I can't help but wonder how much could have changed in just the past month.

Does it seem like at this point I should be monitored more closely? I don't even remember the timetable my OB told me in the beginning, but I'm going to bring it up when I see him next.

  • You'll start seeing your dr. more often from here on out. I remember feeling the same way (I was living abroad when pg with multiples and a monthly visit just seemed so long in between...I opted to see a MW in between visits to my MFM for my own peace of mind). When I returned to the US around 23 weeks, I started seeing him more frequently, and by the end of my pg, I saw him a lot (2 times a week for BPPs).

Bring it up next visit but I'm pretty sure they'll shorten the amt. of times btwn visits from now on...

  • Like pp, I'd be surprised if you don't start seeing the doc more often now. It was at 20 weeks that I started having to go every other week, and at 33 weeks I will start seeing him every week. I have di/di twins, though, and have had no complications. If you feel like you need more frequent monitoring, I doubt there's any harm in talking to your doctor about it.

  • I started going every 2 weeks for fluid checks at 18 weeks.  Right about now is when you should probably start to get bi/weekly ultrasounds

  • AHHH! Yes!! Ask ASAP! Some advocates say that during this critical time (warning signs often show up between 16-22 weeks) you should bee seen once a week by a MFM or Peri, not a regular OB. That is one opinion. I think at the VERY LEAST you should be seen every other week for fluid and dopplers and measurements every 4 weeks. Make sure you are an advocate for those babies because things change so fast with TTTS. I am driving 1.5 hours to see my MFM once a week because my boys are hovering above stage 1 but could go to stage 4 in a day! Mo/di twin pregnancy can be so stressfull. I hope I didn't freak you out but I don't think you can be too careful here.

  • Oh, another thing. I think you should contact Mary at the TTTS foundation. Leave your name and number etc. and she WILL get back to you. She will talk to you about the monitoring schedule that makes most sense for your babies.1-800-815-9211 or 440-899-8887. Check out the website too if you haven't alreadyhttps://www.tttsfoundation.org/index.php
