Can I ask a personal $ question?

Those that get portraits done at JCPennys or another studio-type place...what do you end up paying once all is said and done?

Re: Can I ask a personal $ question?

  • It depends on how much we buy. We are portrait club members so we don't pay sitting fees and I never go without a coupon either. I like the $3.99 a sheet coupon, it saves the most money. Typically we leave there any where between $40 to $50. Thats with about 4 or 5 8x10's, 2 sheets of 5x7's, 2 sheets of 3.5x5 (or whatever that size is), and 2 sheets of wallets.

Oh, and we go to JcPenney's. We have never had a bad expierience and we always get great pictures from them. I typically will take a day off from work and schedule a morning during the week. We usually are the only ones there for our sitting so we aren't rushed at all.

  • We went to a local photography studio and I think we paid a little under $200.  That was for the rights to the photos on CD and some of that money (maybe $50?) went in an account so we could order whatever photos we wanted.

Thanks! Is the portrait club an annual fee?

  • Completely depends on how you order.  If you buy one pose, you can pay as little as $10 or so for their special package.  If you buy more it gets considerably more $$$$
  • For me, it depends on how the pictures turned out. I've been to Portrait innovations twice. We did Baptism pics of the twins (some with Justin)- I loved so many, so much that I ordered several 8x10s, a 10x13 and a small "package", I think I spent about $85. The 2nd time it was a large group shot of all MIL's grandkids and I didn't really love any. We ordered her a 10x13, which I think was like $15 and then we got the $9.99 package that they always offer (1 8x10, 2 5x7 and a ton of wallets... I think)

The portrait club is good for 2 years.

  • We go to JCP. We have the portrait club, which is good for two years. This year for Christmas pics, we ended up with 6 different pictures that we liked. Two each of the girls by themselves, one of both girls and one of the whole family. We ordered 4 8x10s and  28 5x7s. We paid $108.

I will say that the only reason we continue to go to this JCP is the ONE photographer that we love. She is friendly, gets lots of great shots and understands how to work with young kids.

  • I have gone to Portrait Innovations 2x.  The 1st time was with both kids and it was out of control (I went by myself, had to nurse DD because she was 6ish months old, no snacking for DS there, etc.).  I spent $120 because there weren't any pics of both kids that we great, just individual ones (I think I bought 7 poses).  I went to the 2nd time with just DD right around her 1st bday and spent $9.95 for the one pose package with a ton of pictures.  I planned to take DS there alone too, but haven't yet.

  • DH and I always laugh at this-we go to Penneys and use the 3.99/sheet coupon and just buy a few sheets (a large pic for us, ILs, My Mom and Dad, usually 2 sheets of wallets)-we always leave spending less than $30. We say they lose money on us with the time it takes them to take the photos, etc.
  • hhaha.. thats really not the kind of "personal $ question" I was expecting..

We have only done JCP portraits once. We only paid about $50 (you have to use coupons).. and we got plenty of pics. My MIL ordered a few more/reprints though.. they get you there..

  • We have used Portrait Innovations and Sears.  Both times it cost a little over $100, for ALL of the pictures we could ever want and more, plus the cd.  But, I would rather have my dear friend Meryl photograph my kids :)

    Yes

  • Last year we hired some one to come to our house she charged us $75 for an hour of her time with our DD (ended up only lasting about 45min) and then she mailed us a CD with about 58 edited photos to print at our leisure. I think she normally charges $100 but a coworker of hers referred her to us so we got her friends and family price.

This year we had won a free photo shoot from a local photog...to build up her portfolio...and she normally charges $100/hr she will come to you or you can go to her in home studio, and you get 20-25 edited photos on a CD mailed to you to print and your leisure.

  • I don't remember exactly how many but every photo taken was on the cd
