sideways contractions

Baby is sitting in this awkward position and every time I have a contraction/braxton hicks/ whatever it hurts.   He is head down (thank god), but lined up on my right side with his legs over to the left. He seems to be trying to engage, but can't quite make it work.

My midwife attributed my discomfort to his head pushing against my pelvis when I have contractions.  In the last two days I've noticed that as the contractions get stronger, my whole belly rears up and shifts over to the right, molding around his butt and back. 

This morning I was at Target and had one that took my breath away.  I looked down and sure enough it looked like my belly was trying to make a break for the antacid aisle, without the rest of me.  I looked up to see a guy staring at me.  I was like, "yeah, it's an alien.  I don't know how it got in there."  He turned bright red and hurriedly turned into the next aisle, only to back right out when he realized it was the tampons and pads section.
