I am very torn about something

Me, the opinionated know it all is not sure what to do... LOL

My Dr is out of town this week, so for my wk 38 checkup i have a Dr I have not seen before. My Dr said I could skip the internal if I wanted since it isnt her. But now for the last 2 days I have been getting BH's regularly and am kind of curious to see if theres any changes in there. But I just dont want some stranger inside my whoha. A feeling I should really get over in case I go into labor during my Drs off shift. Embarrassed

Also, internal exams have always been very uncomfortable for me. My cervix hides waaaay up in there and they always have had a hard time finding it. (2 internals this PG due to PTL, lots during last PG also from PTL)

Should I? Even knowing it isnt a major indicator of imminant labor?

  • I would go ahead and have it done just so you DO get over the idea that only your dr. can go near that area. Ad no, dilation isn't an indicator of imminent labor, but it's good to keep track of your progress.

For me, I'm not big on internals, but if you think it will give you peace of mind then have them check.  Think about how you will feel afterwards, regret them not checking or wishing they hadn't?

  • Yep, I have been seeing the same OB since the start of my pregnancy. I scheduled my next appointment last time I was at her office, and turns out she isn't going to be available so I have to see a different OB. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, if my OB hadn't told me that I was due for my first internal at my next appointment... And to make it worse, the doctor I'll be going to is a MAN! Which, of course, means BIG fingers! So not sure whether I should refuse the internal or not... And I'm like you, I am curious to see what's going on up there! HAHA!

  • There is a chance your org Dr might not be able to even deliver your baby if someone else is on call, I think you should get over the idea of someone else other then your Dr being up there, they are a Dr and have the same knowledge and expertise. And while in labor I think nurses may be even able to check you... id get used to it.

  • You are going to have so many people up in your business, you might as well start now. haha. You will have nurses check you, perhaps a different dr. When I have had my babies, I have been exposed with abot 4-5 people in the room...dr, nurses, baby nurse etc. I think it's something you get over really quickly!
