Maternity belt

Has anyone been using a maternity belt?  Does it help?

I have been having pain in my pelvis, and my midwife suggested trying on.  I don't want to get more things to clutter up our apartment that I never use, but if it actually helps then I'll try it.  Any advice?

Re: Maternity belt

  • My dr. suggested one too, but I'm afraid it might make my back hurt...I've been VERY luck so far and not had back pain. I'm also opposed  because I want to try to just tough it out! It seems like cheating. Smile But I'm also curious if anyone had success with them.

  • I love it. It gets kinda uncomfortable after a while (cause it's like a girdle thingy) but I'm all baby, and it helps to support his weight (I've only gained 8 lbs and he's already 5lbs 4ozs). It does WONDERS for you back but is uncomfortable if you're sitting through a movie or something.

  • i've had back problems so i've tried it but they are uncomfy, i didnt like it at all. my back pain eventually went away without the help of it.
  • Mine actually caused more pain than it alleviated.  I wore it one day and haven't touched it since. I could barely walk when I took it off.

  • A friend suggested using a thick (6 inch or larger) ace bandage instead of a store bought maternity belt. She said that she liked it because she could adjust the support and felt it wasn't as bulky...she also used it after the baby was born for support. Plus, I'm sure an ace bandage is a lot cheaper than the maternity belts. Just a thought...:-)

  • I have one and really like it. I just throw it in my bag and when I start to get uncomfortable put it on.  Originally I  tried wearing it all day but that just made me cranky.  I've been using it a lot when I'm shopping because it helps to support and I get tried less quickly.

...or you could get out that ol' bella band thing if you got one for 1st tri!  This is what one of my friends suggested, but I haven't needed to try it yet.
