after 18 months, DH and I noticed that ours is starting to smell pretty bad. I think I'm going to pick up another one at lunch today but I hate to throw a perfectly good one away. I might try to air it out in the basement for a few weeks then we would have 2...which with our second baby coming...wouldn't be too bad. how many do you own?
ETA: where do you buy the arm and hammer discs at? I would like to try those first. definitely a good idea!
Re: how many diaper genies (or similar devices) do you own?
0.
We use a trash can and empty it every night.

Yes. It's convenient too. I could easily take the diapers down stairs out to the garage trash every time I change DD, but I'm far too lazy for that. DD's poops stink and we've never had an issue with the one we have (Diaper Genie II, I believe).
I haven't decided if I'll get another one for the new baby. Maybe DD will be PT'd by then-ha!
We had the Diaper Champ and it was awful and didn't contain the smell at all.
We know have the diaper genie 2 elite and it is in his room. It works pretty well at containing the smell. It really only smells when it is getting full.

We only have 1 in DD's room. I air mine out on the porch with bleach every few months to help with the stink. Also another thing I've changed recently is put only wet diapers in her room and the poopy diapers in a plastic grocery bag (since we have 100's) and put it in the kitchen trash. It is amazing her room never stinks anymore.
With Baby #2 almost here I haven't quite figured out what I am going to do. Our current diaper champ is pink...somewhat have an issue with putting it in DS room. So we shall see what comes easier here in the next few weeks.
None.
We did have one until I changed the liner one day and found it crawling with maggots. I ended up tossing the entire thing out. Barf.
Now diapers go directly to the can outside outside.
This.
We have one, in DD's room next to her change table. Contains all poop-related smells. Amazing.

3...one on each level cause we're just lazy and we have twins, but we use the Arm & Hammer Nursery Fresheners in the pail and it really helps
Ohhh... imma gonna get me some of these!

The trick is to put 1 at the bottom and use double sided tape to stick one to the lid
None.
I had a diaper pail in DS's room for about 3 weeks when he was first born and then one day had an epiphany and thought to myself "why on earth am I storing dirty diapers in my child's bedroom for days at a time when I can just throw them right out now???".
After that I just disposed of the dirty diapers in my kitchen pail, which gets a new bag everynight after dinner. Poopy diapers go immediately from LO's butt into a little plastic bag and get tied up so they don't smell and then into the kitchen pail they go as well.

this is us, but now I am considering getting one since I'll have 2 under 2.
We have one Diaper Genie II Elite. I love that it has a foot pedal that opens the lid and you just toss the diaper into but when the lid opens stinky air comes out that you smell once it's shut for a few seconds. I just make sure to walk away quickly. Otherwise with it just sitting there it doesn't smell at all.
Before, we had just the Diaper Genie II, not Elite. It held the smell better but I was skeeved out when i had to shove the diaper in it with my hand and would feel wetness from the condensation. (At least that is what I was trying to convince myself it was!)
We have two Diaper Genies. One at home, and one at our cabin. I have the foot pedal Genie at home. I like that better than the original.
I also love the Arm&Hammer discs.
