After a miscarriage a year ago, I developed some serious anxiety and depression. Doctors thinks it was hormon related. Anyway I started taking Effexor and it worked really well. I tried Prozac before that and it didn't work. My doctor called Effexor the good stuff. After about 6 or 7 weeks on it I got pregnant ( I'm 8th months now) I had to come off the effexor pretty quickly and my depression came back right away. I suffered with depression for most of my pregnancy, but it has gotten better as the pregnancy has progressed. I plan on starting back on the effexor after delivery as a means to prevent PPD.
Good luck!

I was on it before I was pregnant, and it worked ok for me. (everyone is different, sometimes it is hit and miss). I had to come off of it because of my pregnancy, and even with tapering, it was a hard withdrawal. dizzy spells and feeling really off. I went on it again a few months after my son was born, and again had to go off of it (due to insurance issues). That time had to come off it quickly, and it was pure hell.
It worked ok for my anxiety and depression, but I probably could have used something different after I had my son. The effexor didn't really cut it for the depression I had after I had him.

I was on it for a few months pre-pregnancy. It didn't work that well for me, but that doesn't mean anything for you. You never know what will work for you until you try. I will warn you, though, that with this drug, you have to take it consistently at the same time every day. The times that I forgot to take it in the morning, I had bad fuzzy spells only a few hours later. And as a PP said, effexor is an absolute *** to come off of. Of course if it works for you, then it is all worth it.

Just wanted to add my experience with it.
