Enema's

Has anyone given themselves an enema for constipation? Or there doctor said it was okay.. I think it's on my safe list but not sure.. I've read that they are safe then other articles say they are not.

Re: Enema's

  • I would only do it if you are very very miserable and in pain b/c you can't have a BM.  Enema's are not fun.  I had a partial one after I had my c-section with DD b/c of horrible gas trapped in my stomach, it was making me feel sick.  Be prepared to be close to a toilet for a good part of the day.

  • I would take milk of magnesia first and see if that helps.  If not call your OB and ask about Fleet enema's.
  • Thanks Ladies!! I do believe this is the worst part of pregnancy!! I HATE IT!! :)

  • Eh, Fleets enemas aren't that bad. I had to do two in first tri because of zofran. Much quicker relief than any safe oral laxative, and only a max of 15 min in the bathroom.

Just the standard Fleet's saline enema. I never used the mineral oil ones. Buy a two pack in case you need another in the future Wink Set up shop in your bathroom for awhile with a magazine and your phone, and you should be feeling better soon!
