Hi everyone!  My husband and I recently found out we are expecting a baby in August 2012!  This will be our first and we are really hoping for a natural delivery.  I had my first appointment at PfWH and voiced our wish for a natural childbirth.  I felt our CNM really listened and offered good suggestions for classes, doulas, etc.  I wondered if anyone else has gone or is going to this practice, what was your experience with a natural birth?

Thank you!

  • It's a good practice. Just stay away from Dr. Hackett. I delivered with them last year and loved everyone except for him (and he's definitely not natural birth supportive). Unfortunately is his practice, but I do love everyone else there so I stay.

  • Congratulations! I am going there also. I haven't delivered with them yet, so I only have my prenatal experience to go on. I've seen three of the Dr.s and almost all the midwives and don't have anything bad to say about one of them. I think the practice as a whole is fabulous.

  • I agree about staying away from Dr. Hackett. He has left a bad taste in my mouth

  • thank you for the information!  I met with one of the midwives at our first appointment and she assured me it would be a midwife that would deliver our baby.  That made me really happy!

  • Hi there & congrats!

I posted a question about this very practice a few months back because I started out there.  However, I had a less fortunate experience than you had.  The CNM I met with told me that she could not guarantee me that a midwife would deliver our baby, that it would be whoever was on call, which was a big concern for me.  With every appointment (with the exception of one I had with a female OB whose name escapes me), I felt rushed through & like I couldn't ask questions.  In general, I just wasn't comfortable with the practice and I was scared that in the end, I wouldn't be supported in my desire for a natural birth.  I'm a very anti-confrontational person, so again, this was a real concern for me.   Now, I didn't stay long enough to get any real proof for my fear (I switched practices around 12 weeks, I think) but after doing research on this site & elsewhere, I found a practice I was more comfortable with.

The fact that you have already felt comfortable with the midwives is a step ahead of me, but I remember how nervous I felt and how much I wanted to hear about others experiences before I made my decision, so I wanted to give you mine.  I've since switched to Women's Contemporary Health in Westerville.  They are very supportive of natural birth and most of their patients go this route.  I love it there, but that's just me.  I should say that this is in no way an advertisement or push for that practice, just wanted to give you my experience. :)

I hope you have an awesome pregnancy!
