Shoes in the house?

I know this has been hotly debated before :)

So no debate.. just a question.. do you wear shoes in the house?

We don't, and we are visiting my relatives for Christmas, but their floors are really slippery, so I'm working on finding better non-slip socks for the kids!

Re: Shoes in the house?

  • I usually don't. We imagebought these slippers from Old Navy. They are a grippy suede on the bottom. We have hard word floors and he does just fine. We also bought them a little tighter to help them stay on.

  • No shoes in the house.  And I don't like it when other people wear their shoes in my house.  I would take some slippers for the kids.  I have hardwoods throughout the downstairs so the kids just go barefoot in the house, but they do have slippers that they sometimes wear.  If they wear socks, they do slip and fall on the wood.
  • We don't wear shoes in the house but we don't always make guests take them off (they usually do though).  I should get a pair of those slippers for DD.  We have mostly hardwood floors on our main level.

  • no shoes in the house. I don't really care if guests wear them... but typically people take them off.

Evan has the same slippers from Old Navy and I love them. He had them last year also. They are cheap and wash up good too. He sometimes will even wear them to bed since his feet always feel cold in the morning w/ just socks.

  • This post just reminded me of a yard sale I went to a couple yrs ago.  This lady had two pairs of EVERY shoes, one looked brand new, one slightly worn.  At first I thought she had multiples, but then the Grandmother who there helping said the mom bought 2 pairs of every shoe, one pair for going out of the house and one pair for inside the house only!   So they wear shoes in the house, but they changed them when they came inside?  Crazy.  But it was a great find for me at 50cents a pair for shoes worn inside only!

  • We don't wear shoes in the house but don't make guests taking them off. But most guests take them off.

We have all hardwood floors so all of Belle's socks have grippies on the bottom. As long as she has those on she is fine. She only falls from her own clumsyness. If I put on a pair with out grips she falls as soon as she steps off her throw rug. I have to remind her when she has them on to be careful or she will fall. That is usually on laundry day and that's all we have left.

  • We're all barefoot 95% of the time. Sometimes they'll have socks on..sometimes it takes us a while to take shoes off. We don't have a closed off entryway so when we get to it, we get to it. Not everyone takes their shoes off- I think with carpet everyone does, but with hardwoods people don't always feel inclined.
  • I live in my LL Bean Wicked Good slippers. DD wears her Elmo slippers and DH just wears socks.
  • 95% of the time I take my shoes off when I enter the house.  I don't wear shoes upstairs thought (where we have carpet).  K wears her shoes inside until she changes out of work clothes.  DD will take hers off as soon as I do.

  • I usually don't but I'm not very strict about others doing it.  Although my FIL always wears his shoes in our house and it kind of annoys me, lol, not sure why.  But he walks through the back tv room, kitchen, dining, and into the living room so he's tracking stuff everywhere.    Our downstairs is all pergo floors or tile with just two area rugs.  It drives me crazy in the winter when people walk through and track snow and wet shoes.

  • We don't wear shoes in the house and it annoys me when guests don't even ask if they should take their shoes off, especially if they ask us to take ours off at their house. I'm just anal I guess. Lol.

  • I do not like shoes in the house, we do not wear them, and I prefer for guests not to wear them, but I let it go most of the time.  The only time I am not a fan at all is when the kids are crawling (which Andrew just started).

  • We do wear shoes in the house.  Not like 100%, but we also wear socks, bare feet, or slippers.  The only carpet we have is in the basement.  With the dog, and her dripping water when she drinks, I would much rather be wearing shoes or my croc slippers than get a wet sock.

When people come over, I tell them to wear their shoes if they wish, but either way is not a big deal.  When I go to someone else's house, I take off my shoes unless told to keep them on.  Our one friend has all tile/hardwood and 2 dogs and tells us to keep them on there too.
