Thoughts on boy's name

I feel a little silly even posting this, because I am not pregnant. We're probably going to TTC in about six months, and we think we have a boy's name picked out - Parks Benjamin.

Parks is a family name for H, and I really like it, but I wanted to get feeback on it.  We both wouldn't be opposed to changing it to Parker, though I feel like that's more of a girl's name.  What do you think about the name Parks?  I just don't want to get too attached to a name and then people have really negative reactions to it before it is too late to change.

Re: Thoughts on boy's name

  • Honestly, I don't care for Parks, just sounds like "and Recreation" should go after it.  I do love Parker, though, and I don't think it is feminine at all.

  • Parks Benjamin is okay. I don't see a huge problem although it does remind me of  a butler for some odd reason.

Parker is fine for a boy. I must be totally out of the loop or something because I've never heard of it being acceptable for a girl x.x

  • I don't mind Parks, but prefer Parker (I don't think it's a girls name) ... although IMO Benjamin Parks sounds better.

  • Since when is Parker a girl's name???????

I know it's a family name, but Parks is just a little too odd as a first name for me. I think it would be fine as a middle name, Benjamin Parks Lastname. I really like Parker Benjamin though! I have never, ever heard of a girl named Parker, so I am either WAY out of it or that trend simply isn't going on in my area.

  • Benjamin Parker.

Parks sounds really awkward to me as either a first or a middle name. But I do love the name Benjamin.

  • I find it an odd name, to be honest.  I like Parker better, and I also agree that Benjamin Parks sounds better.

I'm sitting here literally trying to see myself calling out to a kids "Hey, parks!".  It just isn't a "name" to me.  And then thinking of the person as an adult - same thing.  It just doesn't sound right.

  • I think it's just okay. I'd prefer it as a mn or a nn for Parker.

Parker is all boy to me, but so are Ryan and Elliot, so what do I know?

  • Hmmm, I used to a babysit a little girl named Parker, so that's why I have that association.  H thought it was a boy's name, though.

Thanks for the feeback.  I've tried googling Parks as a first name, and, although there are some results that are helpful, most of the top picks are "names of parks", which is so not helpful.  And I really don't feel like asking friends and family, because then they'll start asking questions about being pregnant.

It definitely is a boys name.

  • I've never thought of Parker as a girl's name. With that said, I think Parks is strange, but if it's a family name that's a little different. And honestly... don't change a name that's important to your family because other people don't like it. If it was Mykeylaa or something.. sure. But Parks doesn't have that same "WTF are you doing to your child" effect.

  • Parker is a unisex name. it is on both boy and girl lists.

I think Parks sounds like a nickname that one of his friends might call him for short when he is in high school. Just my two-cents.

Good luck when you start trying!

  • I actually like it! It has a nice ring to it and has meaning to you and isn't too out there.

My first thought was Rosa Parks, and that's not a bad reference either!

  • Thanks for the feedback!  I'm not sure what H and I will decide when the time comes.  I'm glad its not too out there, if we go with it.  My nephew's name is Huck, and people judge that name all the time.  I just don't want to scar my future child.
