When to call Pedi

Last week LO got diagnosed with her first ear infection. I was out of town, but when I saw her on Monday she had a temperature. It came down almost instantly after we gave her some Tylenol (per talking with the nurse). My question is, since she's on anti-biotics and had a fever both Monday and yesterday (not sure yet about today - but if she does) - do I call the doc and make another appt for her? Or could it be that she's recovering still from the ear infection? She's been on the meds for 8 days now, so I'm not sure if this is normal for the full 10 days that she needs to be on the meds. Just want to make sure I'm not being a crazy momma bear Smile TIA.

Re: When to call Pedi

  • I would call.  I just called my pedi b/c my DD had an ear infection about 2 weeks ago and still doesn't seem to be herself.  I want her rechecked before the holidays!  It doesn't hurt to call.  Good luck!  Ear infections stink!

  • I would think that 8 days on meds is def long enough to get rid of the infection if it was going to do so. I would call.
  • Definitely call the Pedi.  Our dr asks us to return 2 wks after an ear infection diagnosis to determine the infection has passed. On several occasions, DD1 would need a diffn't antibiotic to get rid of the infection at the 2 wk ckup-she would still have one.

This. If after the antibiotics end, the symptoms are still there go back in. It's likely her ear infection isn't responding to your antibiotic. We just had this happen. We started with amoxicillian, then did omnicef and then ultimately had to do 3 rocephin shots to finally kick the ear infection. The cold symtpoms always linger until the ears are cleared up too for us.

  • Thanks everyone! I made an appointment for her to go in this afternoon. Fingers crossed we'll get to the bottom of this :)

  • DS saw the pedi today for an ear infection. Since I work for an ENT, I asked the same question. It depends on the antibiotic. I was told to call if I didn't see results in 48 hours.
