DD Bit me ...Help!

I'm in shock! Lil bugger is finally getting a top tooth in. I pulled her away from an extension cord she was playing with and she bit me!

I come to you wise mommies! What do I do? My dad says bit her back, he was given a quick side eye and shot down on that one, I will not be biting my child because she bit me, it makes no sense!

So how do I deal with her biting?

Thanks!

Re: DD Bit me ...Help!

  • I think the honest reaction from you helps the most.  "Ouch! That hurt! Please don't bite me."  Then she'll probably cry (your reaction may startle her), and console her, but don't say 'thats okay' or something....keep reiterating that she hurt you and we don't bit people or things.  Teeth are for food only.

  • I agree with jetta. I think that startling her with a loud, sharp noise (like OUCH!) will be enough of a 'consequence' to let her know that that behavior is unacceptable. She won't understand most of the words, but telling her that biting is not ok is good too.

  • Thanks ladies! I'm kinda hoping it was a one time thing, but in case it's not I definitely wanted to know what the best way to handle it was!

  • Eh, I bit mine back. Not hard, but they never did it to anyone again.

    Clutch those pearls.
