... and what type of double stroller do you have? Taking a different approach to the great stroller search. Read my reasoning below if you have time.. or not ![]()
We have had a Graco Quattro Double Stroller for a year now, but both boys caught a stomach bug... at the mall... Bottom line, we had a good run, but it is now bagged up by the street...
We are considering a side by side now b/c my sons just realized the kid in the back could kick the kid in the front and thought this was hilarious.
Right now I'm leaning toward the Baby Jogger 2010 City Mini. Mainly I use my double stroller for walking on a paved path in the summer, going to the grocery store, etc. I'm a teacher so it is very rare that I'm alone with the children and out and about w/o DH - We usually can conquor and divide, but we will have Baby #3 here in Feb. I'm thinking it will be inevitable that we will need to be out with a double and an umbrella.
Thanks in advance for your insight/shared experience!!
Re: What bothers you the most about your double stroller?
I have the bumbleride twin and we love it. Only thing is that it is slightly heavy when folded up...but I really wasn't expecting something light. Also in some stores it doesn't really fit in the aisles because it is side by side. It fits through every door and is easy to fold up etc.
I love it and the girls are really happy in it. I also live in south florida and the sun shades are awesome.
This. And my little one has decided that it is so much fun to reach over and hit her brother in the face, or kick him in the legs. That is not so much fun for me!
We also have a used MacLaren Twin Techno. It is nice in that it folds up small, but it doesn't maneuver very well. You have to use two hands to steer it, so I actually find it easier to fit the Bumbleride through most doors as opposed to the MacLaren. But it is the stroller I keep in the car and we bring on vacation since it folds so nicely that I can actually store it in the space between the front seats and the back seats...under the kids feet.
I have the BJ city select, and I can say the only downside is that you have to take one seat off to fold it (it's very easy to do, but would be easier if I didn't have to take one seat off). The plus side of this tandem is that you can face the seats in different directions so one kid can't kick the other, it also has an infant seat attachment for most seats for your LO. If you also happen to be out with one child it can also be used as a single stroller. I know you are looking for a side by side, but if one child kicking the other is your only tandem issue, then this might work for you, GL!
ETA: The only other thing that bothered me was the price, but it was totally worth it in the end.. $500 for a stroller still boggles my mind though!
We have a Baby Jogger City Mini (single and double). I really have to think to even find a negative.
The straps/buckle are five point and do not simply unsnap to convert to a three point like some strollers/highchairs/swings/etc. It would be nice to allow my toddler to just have a lap belt. We just leave the straps behind his arms sometimes.
It doesn't come with accessories. We bought the BJ belly bar (adjustable and I love it) and the Sunshine Kids parent console- works well for much less money. We skipped the snack tray because it sits too high. We skipped the infant carseat adapter for the double (we have it for the single). I just recently rigged the stroller to hold the infant carseat using the belly bar and a mommy hook. (Hold the flames, I did it because it was freezing, the baby was sleeping, and I needed to get from point A to point B quickly with two kids while I was alone.)
That's it. It's light. It's easy to maneuver. It's easy to fold. The seat goes down flat enough for a newborn. (We used it on the boardwalk with a two week old.) It fits through doorways. The sunshades are HUGE and no other stroller compares in that area.
Get it.
I could have written this with one exception - I did buy the snack tray. The snack tray is a bit high, but I wanted a place for the kids' snacks.
I haven't used it as a double yet (other than testing it out) since our second baby hasn't arrived yet, but we have the Britax B-Ready.
My only complaint is it's weight and HUGE wheels. I was so used to my ultra light City Mini and I miss it.
The auto lock when it folds doesn't always work without some help.
The cup holder is in the baby's arms reach when they are rear facing and it pops off all the time when folding the stroller... kinda annoying. Gotta find another attachment that works better.
I LOVE that I will be able to fold the stroller with the second seat attached and I love the emerald green/kelly green colour, foot brake, adjustable handle bar, big sunshades on BOTH seats and huge basket.
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

double BOB - love this but it barely fits through a normal door. It does fit but I have to aim it just right and it's heavy to get in/out of my car. I love that it's smooth ride, easy to turn, double cup holder, pockets, storage, and that DS1 actually hits comfortable in it.
City Select - DS1 doesn't fit in the sit comfortable anymore b/c he's to tall, no good cupholder for it, and it doesn't move as well as the BOB
I love my city select - we're also looking in to the buggy board for it since my toddler likes to walk now. I love how I can flip the seats around - especially handy for timeout. We don't use 2 seats yet since O is still in his car seat, but you can fold it with the carseat attachment and a seat.
I have the sunshine kids buggy buddy for my cupholder and I really like it.
