So, I was encouraged today by a LLL member to try to teach LO to nurse again. I haven't even tried for a few weeks now because he never really took to it and was fussy whenever I tried to nurse just for the bond. So, I gave up. His issues seem to be related to either a bad latch or laziness...I think. We didn't really get to work on nursing at all until he was 8 weeks. A co-worker today told me she could set me up with her sister, who is a LLL leader, to see if we can work some of these issues out.
I'd think it's too late for him to learn. What are your opinions? I don't want to be filled with false hope, but it would be so great if he could learn to nurse. No more pumping in the middle of the night while dad feeds LO...
Re: Almost 5 months, working on latch again?
it is definitely possible!!! I have heard stories of babies latching after 12 months of not nursing! good for you for being open to it! I think you are heading in the right direction meeting with a LLL leader and a LC to encourage a good latch, and make sure you are still pumping frequently to get your supply up! you might want to consider a nipple shield and/or a supplemental nursing system! you go momma!!
