We tried out a whole bunch, and they all have flaws. Some are leaky, a lot stop working after a while, some have tops that come flying off when dropped, etc. By far our favorites have been these:
They are great when the babies are learning to use the straw b/c liquid comes out when you press the button on the top. And, supposedly, straw cups are better for oral development. We still use them even though the babies don't need the trainer cups anymore b/c they work the best (and they still aren't perfect--we still occasionally have one where the straw isn't working) and leak the least when dropped.
I second kafunder's recommendation. We had a tough time with the valves on the sippy cups and the straw cups were much easier. Occasionally you get a vacuum build up in the straw and milk will come shooting out, but overall they don't leak much and we really like them.
we only used straw cups too. First the Playtex little grippers, then (and now) the munchkin grip flip straw cups. I like the size, shape, and the fact that they have a lid. You can even buy replacement straws if they get too gross after a while.Though we haven't needed to yet.
Thanks for the feedback! I had the straw cups in a drawer and I decided to give it a shot. I'd been holding back because I was convinced it would be a disaster. Imagine my delight when it went surprisingly well.
