WWYD?

DD got sick on Sat night with a cold. I seem to have come down with it over the course of the day. I don't feel that terrible (yet), but I'm congested and definitely not getting any better. DH's holiday party is tonight and I reallllly want to go. Like really, really bad. There's an award winning chef catering a five course meal. I haven't had a good dinner in a long while. I've been waiting on this night for weeks!

I see two options - a) not go b) take a bunch of cold meds and pretend to feel better and not touch anyone so that they don't get sick

Re: WWYD?

  • Don't go.  You definitely sound like you're coming down with it, and if so, you're contagious.  I'd be kind of peeved if I were sitting near you and could tell you were sick.  Nobody wants to be sick for Christmas!  Tell your DH to put a Ziploc in his pocket and sneak you out a doggy bag.  ;)

    yup.

  • Do you have a fever?  If so, stay home.  If not, I'd go.
  • No fever. I just can't breathe out of my left nostril (which can be fixed with Afrin). No cough either... I'm so torn, but leaning towards not going. If it wasn't the week of Christmas, I would totally go without thinking twice. UGH.

    This.

  • If I wasn't running a fever and felt well enough to be out and about, I would go.  If I felt like I was dying and all I wanted to do was get in bed, I wouldn't go.

Here's my logic.  If DD is congested but not running a fever, I send her to daycare.  Same for me - congested, no fever I go to work.  So, congested with no fever, I go have an awesome dinner.

  • I'd go. It's a cold.

Take your meds, bring some portable hand sanitizer to use before you go in and (possibly) shake hands and be mindful of touching your face.

    Agreed.

Do you have chills or body aches? Is there a slight possibility of it being anything else? If so, then please stay home but if it's just a cold then I'd go.

  • I'd go, too, especially if you aren't running a fever.  If you're totally snotty, I wouldn't, but it sounds like you may just be congested.  I like mc's idea of hand sanitizer.

  • I'm going to defriend all of you.  I simply can't be friends with people who advise sharing their cold with the general public.

Go outside and play in the snow or something.  We don't need your kind here.

  • No fever, then I'd go. Drug yourself, wash your hands religiously while there and try to enjoy yourself.

I'd go for sure.  The way I see it is if you wouldn't miss work because of it why should you miss out on something fun?

Because work = you HAVE to go.

Because party = you do NOT have to go.  You put others at risk for funsies.

(I'm not sure why I'm so invested in this post.  It's my germaphobia, yous guys.)

  • DD got sick on Sat. night and she's better. No snot, no cough. no fever.

I have snot, no cough, no fever, no aches. I feel tired, but I think that's cause I can't breathe out of my nose. I just got home from work and took sudafed and hoping it kicks in fast. DH is in a meeting so have no clue what he thinks. I think he will want me to go. I'm leaning that way and just not drinking or touching people....  that said, not sure if it's worth it if mlf will defriend me....

  • Preschool is not a HAVE TO and they say runny nose/congestion in fine, just no other symptoms.

Honestly, I'm totally in the germaphobe camp normally, but food wins out here.  I'd go, wash your hands, just don't breathe on anyone.  & definitely drink, are you nutz?!

  • Are you sure it isn't just allergies?  Mine have been kicking my a$$ the last few days.
