So my lo had her 4 month check-up yesterday. She was 12 lbs 9 ounces (7 lbs 8 ounces at birth). Since her 2 month visit, she gained only 2 pounds. The doctor wasn't too concerned with only a pound/month weight gain, so I know I should be not worrying, but I still am.
Right now she sttn from on avg. 9 pm - 5:30 am (a little later on the weekends). When she is awake on the weekends she will eat every 2 hrs (+/- 30 min - closer to more frequent), she can go slightly longer between feeds if we are out and about. She may take cat naps. During the week she is fed 4 - 3.5 oz bottles while at dc or my parents. She may take longer naps for them - still eating every 2 or slightly longer is she is napping - I told them not to wake her. I nurse her before I leave for work and nurse her until bed, she will cluster feed in the evenings.
The doctor said, she is gaining weight and sttn the night so she probably isn't hungry and she has wet diapers. The thing is, she will get a diaper change prior tto getting fed most times and they aren't sopping wet. In the evenings when she is cluster feeding I don't change her prior to every session, her diaper change before jammies is never really saturated nor is the 1st diaper in the am.
From everyone's own experiences - do you think she is getting enough? I really can't bump up her bottles anymore - some days I can barely get the 14 ounces I need currently and that is with 5 pumps a day already.
My husband supports my desire to breastfeed but he is also fine with formula. I am getting to a breaking point where I would love for her to space her nursing sessions out on the weekends because between feeding her and entertaining an almost 3 year old I have no time to get anything done around the house.
I guess I just need some motivation/support to say that I can continue to do this and we will make it!
Sorry for the rambles.
Re: 4 mo old - getting enough?
Sounds a lot like my LO and like our 4 month appt. LO was 12lbs, 12 oz, and had dropped from the 40th to the 20th percentile since her 2 month check up. She eats about every 2-2.5 hours as well. She doesn't take a bottle, so I have no idea how much she was getting.
I realized that her poop was very smelly and mucousy, which can signify a dairy allergy. I cut out dairy and she's much better.
I hope you find an answer; good luck!
I think your LO sounds fine and there's no cause for concern. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but are you worried that she doesn't have sopping wet diapers and is small?
At my DDs 4 month appt she wasn't even 12 lbs (11lbs 14oz) and the pedi didn't seem concerned at all. I'm not a doctor or medical professional, but it sounds to me like she's getting enough because your LO sounds exactly like my DD.
I try and live by the rule of thumb that as long as the pedi isn't concerned, I'm not concerned.
