My DD started going through another growth spurt yesterday and is eating almost every hour on the hour and has increased her intake by a 1/2 oz to an oz making her consumption 3 1/2-4oz..when I pump, I'm pumping to replace the bottle she just drank and only sometime can I get 4-5oz in one session, and thats in the AM,most of the time its 2-3oz is im lucky.. Now that she's cluster feeding I dont really have the time in between feedings to pump.. She eats and then I have to rock her to sleep which can take anywhere from 30-45 mins and then she up again to eat..I pump whatever I can for how ever long she will allow me to but like I said I dont have enough time to pump a complete bottle..So I'm seriously considering giving her whatever BM I can pump and then giving her and oz or 2 of formula during this time of growing until I can catch up on my supply.. A few oz's a day for a day for a day or so to get through this growth spurt is no biggie right?
Anyone have experience adding formula to the mix?
Re: EP during Growth spurt and not enough milk..(supplement)
Yep, we supplement DD with formula (have since she was 5 weeks old). I have used every brand out there, and DD seems to be OK with any of them (I used up all of the free samples - Gerber, Similac, Enfamil). I BF first, then offer 2 oz of formula after her 3 mid-day feedings. It has been a God-send. It has helped to space out her feedings to every 3-3.5 hrs instead of every 1.5-2 hrs (which was really wearing me out!!) DD gets anywhere from 2-6 oz of formula a day.
BTW, you can go here to get a free sample of the Walmart generic formula....
