Wrapping gifts

Do you wrap other people's gifts in front of your LOs?  Stella is still young enough not to know the difference, but it's a little difficult to wrap when she's around b/c she likes to dance on the paper =)  But I figure next year we won't be able to do any wrapping when the girls are around.  Maybe if we're using different wrapping paper for the "From Santa" gifts it would be ok...

What do you do?

Re: Wrapping gifts

  • I do it after they are in bed. With wine. All our presents (wrapped and unwrapped) are on our dining room table...my kids have paid no attention. But yeah, next year will be so different. Well I hope they get it by then because I need to start seeing some rewards for all this work :)

  • It's much easier to do it when he's in bed. He's in a "helping" phase lately, so unless DH is around to occupy him, he'll be right there playing with the tape, any wrapping paper I have nearby, etc.
  • ethan helped wrap grandparent gifts.  for the kids gifts i did it at naptime and after they were asleep.  we have from santa paper.  I bought 6 rolls and hopefully it will last a couple years
  • Even though Claire really won't know the difference, we use "Santa" wrapping paper and then family wrapping paper.  When she was born my niece believed so I did it for her benefit (and pictures that Claire may look at when she's older) and just kept it going.  I haven't wrapped in front of the kids but would wrap family gifts.

  • After she's in bed. I would get nothing wrapped if she was there b/c she also likes to "dance on the paper"!  I wrap, drink wine and watch some Christmas movie. It's usually a few nights like this though. It's never ending wrapping!

  • I've been wrapping after the girls are in bed. We've kept everything in the basement away from them.  For the "from Santa" gifts, my mom got each girl a "Santa Sack", which is a huge felt bag that is more than big enough for all their Santa gifts. We don't wrap them we just put them in the sack and tie it shut. It is a huge help to not have to wrap everything!

  • I do it when he's in bed, but just so I don't have to deal with him getting into everything.  We wrap Santa gifts in different paper.  He did help me wrap yesterday because it was our Christmas activity of the day...he had to help wrap the gift he picked out for Riley.

I love this idea!  This year each of the girls are only getting 1 big gift and stocking stuffers, but I will have to keep that in mind for the future.

  • I haven't started my wrapping yet but will do it once she is in bed. She likes to help with everything I do. When I wrapped my ornament for the exchange she wanted to help. She didn't get in the way but I had to keep stopping to help her wrap her shoe. It will go much quicker without her "help". For the Santa gifts I have two different rolls that we will use for just Santa gifts (I hope they last a while). Plus the easel we won't wrap. It will just get a bow on it. Two of her gifts have been sitting out in our bedroom for a month now and she has yet to bother them. Next year will probably be much different.

  • I did it after she was in bed. It was just so much easier that way. She likes to help and isn't nearly as helpful as she thinks she is.

I did let her "help" wrap her gift to DH, and wrapped it with the paper inside out so she could color on it.
