3rd Trimester

Appointment today: Vent - need sympathy

I have an appointment today - I'm both dreading it and looking forward to it, because I will know if I've made any progress whatsoever, and yet I have a sneaking suspicion I've barely made any (I am only at 37 weeks 4 days). But I'm looking forward to it, because we have a weekly ultrasound and so I get to see how big she is and how cute.  This waiting is almost worse than the waiting for your period to come or not come when you're TTC!!!! In moments of sanity, I laugh at myself, because I know that baby will come when she's ready and there's really nothing I can do about it except be patient. But then the insanity comes back.....

At least I have plans for later in the week - movie with husband, dinner with friends, Christmas! But getting to the end of the week is frustrating.

Re: Appointment today: Vent - need sympathy

  • I can totally sympathize.  I'm not as far along, but I'm totally ready for some sign that my body is getting ready for labor.

I take it to mean by progressing that you want news that you've dilated more.  Don't pin your hopes on that.  It really doesn't mean very much as far as how close you are to labor because you could be dilated for weeks or you could be closed up and deliver tomorrow.  It's better to hope for other signs, like a change in BH contractions or in your bowel movements.

  • That's another reason I'm so neurotic - I know women can go weeks even being dilated to 3cm or something so even if I DID make progress, it means nothing! At the same time, I'm on maternity leave and everything is pretty much done for the baby - we thought I might have to be induced this past weekend based on some tests we had done the week before (they ended up being fine, which is good) and so hubby and I went into a tailspin of cleaning, cooking, getting the nursery together, etc. and now I have very little to do except sit and think about going into labor. I even got all my Christmas shopping done and wrapped. And the weather is cold, wet, miserable, so I can't go out for walks or anything either. Luckily, I can complain to perfect strangers on The Bump's community boards :-)
  • I feel for you, I'm only 30 weeks... almost 31 and I want her here now.  Its such a long wait lol

  • It get's worse!

I'm still waiting for some sort of sign, a mucous plug, a contraction, anything.

  • Why dont you just refuse to be checked.  You can always put it off another week.  I know I got really upset at my 39wk appointment because I had not progressed since 38wks.  I wished I had just skipped the cervical check.

  • I have an appointment tomorrow, and am also feeling a little impatient these days as well. I can't wait to meet my baby boy!  You get a weekly ultrasound?  Is there some reason for that?  I have only had 3 throughout my entire pregnancy.  My doctor's office has the philosophy of the least exposure to ultrasound (although deemed safe for diagnostic purposes) the better, which I kind of agree with.

As far as the waiting game, I would recommend you truly savor the peace and quiet.  We all are anxious to meet our babies, but we will never get this time back with our husbands.  A movie with your husband and socializing sounds like a great idea!  We will be doing the same this week, and next, unless baby decides to come anytime between now and then!  Good luck.

  • Progress at 37 weeks?  Relax hun... Just becuase you have no progess does not mean very much.

When i was 40wks, 1 day at my last appointment I was told that I still had zero progress.  We scheduled my induction for the following week.  Well the very next morning at 40wks, 2 days I went into labor naturally.

This. Why must they insist on sticking their hand (oh so painfully) in my vagina when it means nothing and stressing us out that we're not making progress. No thank you.

  • i have another doctors appointment today. on friday i had an appointment and my doctor checked me and i am a finger tip dilated (which isn't very much) and she also said that she could push baby's head up my pelvic bone, so he/she is very low. hoping to hear today that i have made some more progress, even if it isn't very much. i am getting induced on boxing day so really it doesn't matter whether or not im dilating naturally lol. im letting nature rides its course

  • I totally feel your frustration, but you are doing the right thing! I had two babies due around the holiday season and neither of them came before Christmas, although one came on New Years Eve and the other on Jan 5. Hang in there, keep making plans and keeping yourself busy! I even hosted a New Years Eve dinner party one year with the mindset of if I plan it, the baby will come when it's least convenient- he didn't! Lol but at least I could focus my attn on something else!
  • I feel ya. It's frustrating when you've started experiencing things and can't determine if they're "real" or "fake". Like, Im assuming contractions that make you wanna cry would be real, or I'm a total wuss ;) But we have a doc appt today; he'll say what he's been saying for a month and we'll see if after my long night of contractions, I've dialated at all. Not that it means much, but, I really do feel your frustration. Good luck! (And we have a Sono today too - I'm really curious about his size - I'm gonna guess 5lbs :)

i feel the opposite way.  the checks dont hurt me at all.  and i like knowing either progress or no progress.  that comforts me.  the thought of not knowing either way stresses me out.
