anyone use tucks or depends after delivery?

i was just wondering if anyone used tucks and took them to the hospital with you or just used at home? How long do they last? im tempted to just buy some now so i have them when the time comes. I was also wondering  if its better to wear depends than pads? I'd feel  kinda stupid wearing depends but i think i'd be less worried wearing that than a pad.

for coming home from the hospital, i was gonna put baby in one of those snowsuits with the hole in it for the carseat belt. is that ok for newborns?

Re: anyone use tucks or depends after delivery?

  • You can use tucks or just get witch hazel and gauze pads and use those, it works the same, it will help wtih both hemmheroids if you get/have any any as well as stitches if you have any. At our hospital we use depends for the first 24 ish hours but after that your bleeding really slows down and extra long heavy day pads are fine.

No that snowsuit is NOT safe for any child. Please do some reading, One the straps cannot be tightened appropriately when the baby is in a bulky snowsuit, also the hole buckle is not good because its hard to tell if babys legas are thru the apprpriate spots, this can be very very unsafe. Just use blankets over the baby or get one of the shower cap style seat covers, both options allow baby to be beckled in safely and do not interfere with the straps.

  • I brought tucks but I didn't like them, they irritated me and just made things sting with no relief. Maybe I'm allergic? I dunno but people made them sound so good and such was not the case for me! I just wore pads and changed them a lot. You can wear depends but bleeding slows down a lot after first few days so dont buy a huge pack

  • I used Tucks for about 2 weeks PP. They reallllllly helped with the irritation, which burned 24/7 from my tear and stitches.

I had really bad incontinence and peed on myself for 2 weeks. I would realize that I had to go, and boom- peed myself. Ha. I would definitely recommend a large pad or depends.

Also, my recovery was NOT normal, so don't be frightened. I had lots of complications. Bring home all the hospital supplies- hospital underwear, pads, ice packs, formula, peri bottle... everything!

Ask your hospital for EpiFoam. It is a mousse that completely numbs your bottom. I even brought some home. BEST THING EVER!!!

  • Vote for depends!!! It was the best decision I made I recommend it to every PG lady I meet. Someone told me about it and I thought they were crazy but after bleeding as much as I did and having 2 accidents I bought a pack.  It was so much better than all those pads and with not having the strongest of bladders after my delivery it was a god sent.  DD was in the NICU so It was nice not to have to run a chage a pad every hour.  It may sound gross but they really did make life more conveient

  • i just used heavy flow pads that the hospital sent home with me (they sent me home a whole pack, tucks, a spray to help with pain, cream for hemerroids, a water bottle to clean with, and a donut to sit on!). ask your nurses, mine were great and brought me all kinds of stuff for me and my daughter! i did have to buy one package of pads that i never finished. they are waiting in the closet for after baby #2!
