Help! Sick/hurt and supply is dropping!

I am so upset and don't know what to do. I had gotten really bad cracks in both my nipples  and it was extremely painful to nurse. I called and left a message with a lc but she didn't return my call until yesterday. So my family practice doc said to use lanolin and polysporim, heal up without nursing and just pump to relieve engorgment. He assured me my supply wouldn't suffer. Well my nips still aren't healed, and I'm only pumping 15 oz and my ds needs 25. PLUS now I'm sick, lost my voice so I can't call the lc. Sorry so long. Suggestions???

Any good LC will agree to meet with you.  Place the call.

It was silly for a doctor to say your supply would not suffer if you weren't pumping or nursing for goodness sake! Get back to nursing and have your DH call the LC for you. Hope you feel better soon.

HELLO AND CONGRATS ON YOUR LO! BREASTFEEDING CAN BE TOUGH ESPECIALLY WHEN IT HURTS OR YOU HAVE SORENESS. FIRST THING IS THAT YOU PROBABLY HAVE A LATCHING PROBLEM THAT CAUSED YOUR NIPPLES TO CRACK. SOMETHING THAT HELPED ME WITH MY LATCHING PROBLEM WAS WATCHING BREASTFEEDING VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE. THEY SHOW YOU HOW TO PROPER LATCH AND POSITION THE BABY. FOR THE SORENESS I WOULD SUGGEST MANUAL HAND EXPRESSION UNTIL THE SORENESS GETS BETTER. YOU CAN GOOGLE AND YOUTUBE HOW TO DO IT. IT WAS FAR LESS PAINFUL THAT PUMPING AND NURSING. ALSO TRY GEL PADS FOR THE SORENESS. THEY CAN BE FOUND @ TARGET OR WALMART IN THE SAME SECTION AS BREAST PUMPS.THEY ARE ABOUT $9.99.GOOD LUCK AND HANG IN THERE :-)

Thanks for all of the help! Not a latching issue, just a dry, over-sucked nip. I added a a pumping session today, so hopefully I will be back on track. I have a pretty large frozen stash, but not quite enough to get me to a year (ds is 9 months). Just hope these nips heal quickly so I can get back to nursing. And that I get my voice back. I couldn't even go through the drive thru after the doctor's office because no one would hear my order
